Wonder Woman (2017)

New pictures from the set of WW. They're doing a scene in Trafalgar Square.

Either Lucy Davis has put on a crazy amount of weight, or she's in "fat" make-up, which seems more likely. I wonder why.... Possibly WW originally meets her years earlier (before the Great War), or else there's a time travel gimmick involved. More likely the former.

Also, note the crew member wearing a Rogue One jacket!

EDIT: She's probably playing Etta Candy. Which raises the question of are there really no large actresses capable of playing the role?

If Hollywood were willing to hire large actresses they wouldn't keep getting Amanda Waller wrong...

Non comic book people "Etta Candy" is an established comic book character since 1942 who is drawn as plump or dumpy to contrast what Wonder Woman has going on, who was also the annoying ninny played by Beatrice Colen in the first season of the 1976 TV series set during WWII.

As a loyal bunny bouncing along beside Diana Prince in the secretarial pool thinking that they are equals because "nerd with glasses" is way worse than 30 pounds of water weight that doesn't have to be there, or when Etta is Wonder Woman's cartwheeling superfan inspirationaly uplifting the Amazons spirit before she battles a fucking Kracken.

I haven't read much precrisis Wonder Woman, and my post crisis Wonder Woman is spotty, but I did read the Wonder Woman Encyclopedia a few years back and Etta became my ####ing hero.

1. Steve Trevor is all pent up about how hot and half naked the unobtainable Wonder Woman is, which is when Etta decides to reveal how obtainable she is if his respectful degree of chastity as a good Christian soldier is becoming a weight too heavy to burden.

2. Etta railroads Steve into a marriage where they both get everything they want except Wonder Woman.

3. Steve has a mental breakdown because he married the wrong woman. She doesn't handle it well either (eating disorder) but between the two of them it's an explosive cluster fuck that afterwards they are both such damaged goods that you have to wonder why Wonder Woman would want either of them romantically?

:)

I'll be honest, when I first heard they cast Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, I thought it was the worst choice ever. I vaguely knew her from Fast & Furious films but when I googled her pics and saw that she was basically a stick figure like those runway models, I thought "what are they thinking?" Then, I saw the trailers and thought "Wow, she's really going to pull it off!" Definitely changed my mind about her and I'm looking forward to the movies.

My only concern was just that I had never of Gal Gadot, so I wasn't sure what to expect from her. So far I haven't been disappointed.

Acting isn't hard.

The auditioning process starts with 10,000 women that can do this movie perfectly, and then they fight it out to please the producer and director, until one woman who is left, who got there because of random arbitrariness.

The hard bit is writing a script that doesn't suck.

'Don't have to look strong, if your strength comes from magic.

Although there's this scene I love from new frontier where Wonder Woman and Superman are having an argument, and it's really obvious that she's 4 to 6 inches taller than he is.

Enough of this weightbending and putting actors in fatface! Dammit, we're over a third of the population now, no more weightwashing, fatties represent!

Robin Wright getting in shape for her yet unrevealed role in WW. She said she'd be playing a superhero a couple months ago.

But you do have to look strong if you're raised in a warrior society where physical strength is a core value.

Wonder Woman should look more substantial than a fashion model no matter where her strength comes from.

Why?

Women are all different shapes and sizes.

All amazons are trained to be warriors despite being all different shapes and sizes.

Wonder Woman could have been a half pint fattie, but because her strength comes from magic, she can still throw Superman at the moon, despite having Rosie O'Donnel's figure (who was gorgeous as Betty Rubble, but that was a long time ago, and a trick.).

Logically the stronger they are because of magic, the ability to effortlessly juggle elephants, the harder it is to get/make muscles, since muscles come from exertion and breaking through barriers during exercise, so the body of a model is about right if they literally can't exercise.

You remember that Linda Carter won the Miss World America pageant right?

(She got to the semi finals in the Miss World pageant representing America.)

I was reading a Wonder Woman comic the other day, and I noticed something bizarre. After the universal reboot of the comics "recently", Etta Candy is "currently" African American and not a lot like Lucy Davis pigmentally. Lets wait and see if the internet freaks out like it did with Michael B Jordan playing the Human Torch?

True...in Man's World, not in a world populated solely by warriors who use heavy melee weapons.

All amazons are trained to be warriors despite being all different shapes and sizes.

Yes, but ultimately the training will lead to a similar body type: strong arms and athletic cores.

Maybe, but the values of her mother and the other women she was raised be wouldn't allow her to stay a half pint fattie for very long. Even if she never got taller than five-foot-two, she would not be a five-foot-two pencil stick.

But we're talking about a society where only the daughter of the queen has been gifted with magic (as depicted in Perez's run) which means the others can and will exercise. They'd have to not to grow fat and slow...and no matter her gifts they would pass those values on to Diana, who can fly, and therefore always go someplace and find something heavy enough to lift and give herself muscle definition.

I remember. I also remember that the producers of her show thought of Diana's people only as an excuse to show hot chicks in one piece swimsuits, just so the hottest one of all could run around in satin tights fighting for our rights. The concept of "Amazon" means a lot more than that.
