Wonder Woman (2017)

The press probably named her in 1916 for saving the day well in WW1.

Although, that means that Diana has spent the last century burning down every news paper archive in the world that had pictures of her, and that finally the Lex Corp Data base was last resource saying that a century ago, there was a bullet proof lady who is almost certainly dead form old age by now.

Will they call her Wonder Woman in this movie?

Because apparently Lex Luthor gave Wonder Woman her name.

Read more here.
Personally, I think it should be something that the soldiers she works with WWI call her. It just seems to me like exactly the kind of thing they would call her. I could see it starting out as a sarcastic thing at first, that eventually becomes more positive after she earns their respect.

Not necessarily. Defaulting to sarcasm is a modern fashion. Back then, it could well have been meant in earnest from the start. Although whether a modern movie would reflect that period's attitudes is another matter.

New WW images. I suppose people can stop ringing the "diversity alarm".

Everything I've seen so far from the movie has me so optimistic about it. I want this to be great in every way possible. This IS the superhero movie I'm looking forward to most.

Wonder Woman moves away from "Transformers 5"

It's a shame really because I think Wonder Woman could have bested Transformers. The last one only made 100 million in the states opening weekend.

Wow, they're really expecting a massive movie like Justice League to be finished and released by next November when it hasn't even started filming yet? Seems like kind of a stretch...

Not really. Principal photography didn't start on Captain America: Civil War until April 27, 2015, almost exactly one year prior to its scheduled release date of May 6, 2016. The Avengers came out May 4, 2012 but didn't start filming until April 25, 2011.

^^
Also for DCEU itself, the other two upcoming films have shorter spans between start of filming and release, Suicide Squad started shooting in April and Wonder Woman started shooting in November.

Yeah I suppose. I guess I'm just used to the old days when it seemed like big scifi/superhero movies needed almost another entire year to complete all their special effects.

It may depend upon the international release strategies of both films. Though only garnering $250-ish million in the US, Transformers 4 ended up doing in excess of $1b due to overseas revenue, specifically in China.

This and BvS has clearly shown that there is a strong competitive market out there to be tapped and given many larger films these days have Same-Day worldwide release (or close) WW may want to give itself a little breathing room to gain 3 weeks of receipts before Transformers 5 comes out. Based on US receipts alone, WW may best Transformers but with such a large, clearly devoted fanbase outside of the US (Dark of the Moon and Extinction did $770 and $860 million each respectively) and possible simultaneous worldwide releases would put WW at a disadvantage.

Though she has been bolstered by her reception in BvS, WW is still an untested property and giving the film the best possible chance of a clear run before a known behemoth like Transformers makes sense to me.

What would have worried me would have been pushing the date BACK rather than bringing it forward. The latter still shows a confidence in the product, whilst the former may give rise to concerns of "extra time/development needed"

Hugo - aint no wonder, nor no woman

I wonder if releasing it on Memorial Day would work...it would then be up against Pirates of the carribean, so maybe not smart... but the holiday could've helped?

As it stands, the movie comes out my wife's birthday weekend, so we'll do our part to make it a blockbuster weekend for WW

And I think Star Trek Beyond has about a year between start of filming and release date.
