Wknd Est - Star Trek #3 - $29.4 million - $191 million (Final Numbers)

Re: Weekend Estimates - Star Trek #3 - $29 million - $191 million

So they are projecting tomorrow to be 7 Mil? Seems a bit high, no?

Re: Weekend Estimates - Star Trek #3 - $29 million - $191 million

There are no more sci-fi/fantasy genre films until HP... so even with Up and LotL coming up, ST should stay relatively constant for 2-3 weeks from this point.

I'm thinkin', anyway.

Okay, hoping.

Transformers 2

But isn't that on June 26? Still a ways off...

Star Trek should have made nearly all of it's money when Transformers is released. There is nothing to worry about.

Who knows? All the holdover movies dropped a lot more than they usually so over Memorial Day weekend (although the weekend itself is up a fraction from last year).

This is how the Top 4 did last Memorial Day Monday"
Indy4 - $26.8 million
Prince Caspian - $7 million
Iron Man - 5.7 million
What Happens in Vegas - $2.2 million

Star Trek could do somewhere around what Iron Man did, but could make a little bit more. Star Trek's projected Saturday and Sunday drops are identical to Iron Man's drops, and Iron Man dropped 20% on Memorial Day. So if Star Trek drops 20%, it will make $6.1 million.

But we'll see.

Re: Weekend Estimates - Star Trek #3 - $29 million - $191 million

It's making Batman Begins numbers (as I always thought it would) and that is more than respectable. I think Paramount has to be pretty happy at this point--if they're happy, a sequel is a go. No need to worry or wring your hands at these numbers.

I'm surprised they haven't staked out a date yet for a sequel. If they shoot for 2011, June is full (Cars 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Green Lantern), July is worse (Transformers 3, HP, and Paramount's Captain America) and May is a little scary with Spider-Man 4 and Paramount's own Thor.

I wonder if they'll wait until 2012 for a sequel.

I don't mind waiting--and the anticipation, following the success of this film, will only build more strongly.

True. I'd also prefer they don't just rush sequels out without taking the time to properly do them and promote them. The extra 5 months for Star Trek probably translated into millions and millions in extra box office.

Delaying the release date to May 2009 was a really smart move by Paramount. If it been released last December I think it would have made much less overall.

There'll likely be a few more changes to the 2011 calendar, in particular I think there's a strong chance that Paramount/DreamWorks (who still co-own the franchise despite their split) will move Transformers 3 back to the July 4th weekend of 2012. That's the release date Michael Bay wants and I think they may well agree to it. That would open up the July 4th weekend of 2011 for Star Trek XII if Paramount is willing to stake out such a big date for it.

Yeah, I can't imagine Michael Bay wants to do Transformers without any breaks. He already was enthused that he had to move forward with Transformers 2 so quickly, so if they swapped it with Trek it could work.

This would jive with what I think Paramount should do...Transformers/Star Trek in different Summers, along with two Marvel productions and whatever else Paramount makes. This would ensure pretty good box office every year for a while.

Think it will break 1.8 Billion?

Re: Weekend Estimates - Star Trek #3 - $29 million - $191 million

Updated with new 4-day estimates from DeadlineHollywoodDaily

1. NATM2 - $67 million
2. TS - $52 million
3. STAR TREK - $29.7 million
4. A&D - $27.5 million

Re: Weekend Estimates - Star Trek #3 - $29 million - $191 million

It's a good thing T4 can rely on better international numbers than Trek, because at this rate it'll be hard pressed to recoup its ridiculous 200M budget domestically.

Re: Weekend Estimates - Star Trek #3 - $29 million - $191 million

so Trek's climbed atop A&D. good!
