With no Space Seed, how can there be a "Khan Movie"?

As stated in the title, if there was no Space Seed episode, how can they have a Khan Movie.

They could possibly use "Flashbacks" type footage, and can even slip Pike in place of Kirk. But have Khan come after the Captain of the Enterprise, and not have him realize, in his raged mind that Kirk isn't Pike.

How do you know there is no Space Seed?

All the rumors I have heard, all the reading between the lines I have gleaned indicate this film will be Space Seed expanded in some way where Khan becomes some sort of intergalactic Al Queda charasmatic strongman

That is also coincedentally a riff on the original script for Star Trek II where Khan had fled Ceti Alpha to become an intergalactic strong man fermenting revolution to the dissillusioned members of the Fed. (There was also the stupid Mojay and sanjay aliens and Genesis with there crystal Robot helper but thankfully i do not believe we will see that)

If Nick Meyer was involved in some gravitas proofreading capacity I would be a bit more Gung Ho but I am very much looking forward to the film and also after the Colossal Failure that was Cowboys and Aliens that the studio will keep Orci and Kurtzman on a tighter leash.

Because Khan is a CHARACTER, not a story. He doesn't have to have the same obsession with James T. Kirk in this version, or it can happen for a totally different reason.

My guess it that the Klingons find the SS Botany Bay shortly after the Kelvin is destroyed. By the time of the next movie, Khan's been among the Klingons for almost 30 years - he'll probably be ruling the Empire from the shadows.

There won't be another Khan movie - they have so little opportunity to tell fresh stories, why re-tell something that will, in all likelihood compare unfavourably to TWok?

If they have any sense, they will keep Khan around in the comic for more than one story. An interglactic terrorist with a motley crew is a good idea. They could include Klingon mercenaries, maybe some of Nero's original crew that never made it off Rura Penthe, Orion pirates, some of Soong's augments etc. There are many possibilities and they could gradually build him up as a recurring villain, maybe building to the death of a recurring character at his hands.

If they make a cartoon along the lines of the Clone Wars, I can see Khan featuring in that alongside other recurring villains such Kang, Kor, or Koloth.

Er, what? Where are you hearing these rumors? I've heard that Bernard Cumberbach is supposed to be the villain. He hardly screams "Khan" to me.

According to TrekMovie he's the villain, and there hasn't been any other casting news, which would be odd since the movie has already started filming.

This. Khan could be just as interesting, or morseo, even if the 23rd C part of his story were entirely different.

There could be a Khan movie someday, but it won't be this one. Casting a Latino to play an Indian would be sketchy enough, but a pasty Brit? Nah, Hollywood is far too PC for that.

Cumberbatch will play a Klingon and the major baddies will be Klingons.

Good thing. Screaming "Khan" is Kirk's' job! Wakka wakka! :p

Let's see, they've got two lead protagonists, a bunch of major secondary characters, and that's just the TOS gang. All they have room left over for is one major villain, a bunch of minor roles and background people, and your two hours are up. So the casting they've announced covers things nicely.

Remember, too, that last time around, at least a couple of the people about whom we read casting news ended up not appearing in the finished film at all, and there was another actor in a fairly prominent role who wasn't identified until after primary filming had concluded.

Cumberbatch also said today he is rapidly putting on muscle for his role and pounding protein shakes

Why are some of you in Khan denial?
He is such a superior actor (far better than Del Toro) that he will make a fantastic Khan

There are an infinite number of ways for it to work out. For all we know the Narada ran across Botany Bay and in doing so, activated the sleeping chambers at just the right time to awaken Khan and crew, which later allowed for them to establish an empire for themselves long before Kirk or Earth knew about any of these Augments.

I take a break the place gets a makeover.

Because they aren't doing a Wrath of Khan film. They are doing the Space Seed story with their own take on it. Either they or someone else finds Khan as happened in the original series.

Some random ship finds the Botany Bay, then Khan and company take it over. They start mucking about and causing a ruckus. The Enterprise is the only ship in the quadrant. Stuff happens. Roll credits.
