WIP - USS Venture Star

Hey, I started a new thread. :)

A few weeks ago, I started playing with a new design for this ship, the USS Venture Star. It's the Hero Ship of a Role Playing group, over at www.ExpeditionFleet.org

Back-story is, it's like the Excelsior class, in the new movie timeline. I am trying to keep what I always liked about the Excelsior, but change other things, that will make it fit in the new universe better.

Quite a few of these shapes are placeholders, but I'm on a roll. I'll have more updates later. :)

One thing that is unique is the neck. It extends behind the saucer, and helps support the massive thing on the back of the saucer.

Example:

Now, I don't know if I want to make that thing a hangar deck, or the impulse drives. :) I'm leaning towards a hangar Deck, like the E-D, at this point.

But, if I do that, where do the impulse engines go?

I like it. Like a prototype for the Excelsior. :techman: You can put the impluse engines on the sides of the saucer, like on the Ent-B.

I liked your initial ideas and I'm loving the start. The neck is nice and beefy big and strong looking. I like that. Looks much superior to our lil line drawings. :D Impulse engines could work on the back of the pylons. It would be a unique place to see them for sure.

Nacelles!

This was my attempt to blend Refit style nacelles, the new style nacelles, and the Excelsior's nacelles.

I think they turned out pretty neat. :)

Very spiffy. :D

May I suggest you at least try extending the dorsal neck to reach back to the nacelle pylon 'hump' similar to what was done with the Olympic class, only more stretched? I've always thought that would look better. You might consider then putting the impulse engine at the back of the pylon hump too.

Also an idea to consider, why not have what on the Excelsior is the impulse deck be two-tiered, so that the upper tier has a D-style hangar deck and the lower part has the impulse engine?

hmmm, I think you just helped me out tremendously. :)

I'm going to put the impulse deck in the neck, right below what I've decided will be the hangar deck... like on the Ent-D. :)

I owe you one. :)

Working on the back...

Not bad, not bad at all! :rommie:

The only thing I might suggest is moving the shuttlebay higher, perhaps further from the impulse engine to avoid a lazy pilot accidentally landing in the plasma exhaust port...

Oh, those two grey squares are actually bays one and two.

I'm not sure what that thing below them is. :)

Oh, okay. May I suggest losing the think below then? It looks a little... off. I might also suggest borrowing the shape of 'undercut' the Excelsior's impulse engine for how it curves into the neck for a more smooth shape?

I was avoiding the undercut. :) The way it sits on the neck, it's almost flush.

I have some more ideas about that area, though. :)

Here's something that I was messing with. The guys said it was a big ship, but I may have went too big. :)

Here it is in relation to the Enterprise... Notice the Deflector Dishes and the Bridges are the same size.

These will make nice images when it's all done. :)

Nice! I like the size! This is turning out so fantastic i just can't express how knocked flat i am.

This is sort of a legacy thing for me. My brother alex who passed away in 07 used to run a classic TOS sort of role playing game on the original Venture Star. This whole thing is my way of sort of honoring him. A new Venture Star for the new movie and world it's creating. My brother lived and breathed Star Trek and loved writing. If he could see this he would be through the roof.

MadMan your a class act.

:)

I have to agree with the dude there, Madman you've got some skills. Thats really nailed the Venture Star in my opinion.

Mucho thanks for the work your doing.

I feel let down, I was expecting some NASA ship. Oh well, it is a really nice design and vey retro in many aspects.

Except by the deflector out of the sec hull, she looks very nice. Why you don´t use the traditional Excelsior´s deflector shape, integrated into the hull? :)

Thanks. :)

I'm glad I could help out. What was your brother's name? Maybe I can build a shuttle to go along with the Venture Star, and name it after him.

Thanks, everyone else :)

Starship: I was just trying to do something different with that deflector dish, but I am going to push it back farther into the hull. I know it looks a little odd, jutting out like that. :)
