The only problem I can see with Uhura's fan dance is where did she get the palm leaves from? There weren't any trees around! I never thought she was naked.
Good point but I think we were supposed to believe that she was naked.

The stupid cowboys were supposed to think that.Good point but I think we were supposed to believe that she was naked.
The stupid cowboys were supposed to think that.
The fan dance (and the excruciating subplot of Uhura and Scotty's "high school crush") show the difference in dichotomy between The Wrath of Khan and The Final Frontier:
TWOK: "We're aging, and we're acknowledging our age. But that's okay, because with age comes wisdom, and a wealth of life experiences that can inform who we are today."
TFF: "We're all still young and happenin'!! See me climbing the mountain? ('Why am I climbing the mountain?') See sexy young Uhura doing her fan dance? We've still got it, kids!!!"
Somebody somewhere behind the scenes (hint: it was Shatner) was in serious denial.![]()
As for budget, I wonder how much that new bridge set cost them?
Watching it now. I still prefer it to some other films, simply because it reminds me of the series. Despite all its warts, I still enjoy it. But they should never have shoe horned many of the gags because the studio wanted them.
Yeah, that bums me out hard for some reason. I guess 'cause it's one more in-your-face sign that no one cared that much?I am ashamed to say, but I've seen this movie several times and I've never noticed Sybok's magic haircut.

I do actually agree, vis a vis it feeling the most like the original TV show.
Somes scenes with Sybok altering the engines for an anomaly to whisk 'em afar would've been nice.

He's apparently some kind of prodigy before he fell from grace. But I always imagined he could be inspired by this 'god' being in the same way the Cytherians inspired Barclay in The Nth Degree episode. He'd have to do something though that the Klingons could follow and they'd have to get back without Sybok. So it'd have to be the classic "subspace anomaly" or a temporary wormhole. Something of that order. The problem here is that Sybok isn't an engineer; he's just a religious fanatic. He no more knows how to tweak a starship's engines to go faster than I know how to tweak my car's engine to go faster.

Well at least it was a better film than the Motion Picture![]()
Well, there's a fan theory I read that the 'god being' was a disgruntled outcast of the Cytherians imprisoned by the Cytherians. With the difference that Cytherians seemed to be harmless loonies.
I always just attributed it to Sybok getting cleaned up before "meeting God".Yeah, that bums me out hard for some reason. I guess 'cause it's one more in-your-face sign that no one cared that much?
