I feel like Paramount has other priorities
I feel Viacom is more interested in pushing Paramount down the TV production route, and things like Paramount Players for their bigger film output, which Star Trek doesn't fall under.Like what?
Star Trek is one of their more valuable properties, and along with Mission Impossible and Transformers it's one of the few reasons they still (barely) survive as a studio...
I meant more like they go "we can't be assed to do this ourselves or bring someone new in".My understanding is that the rights to Trek movies belong to Paramount, not Bad Robot. So even if/when Bad Robot move on, Paramount will task someone else to make Trek movies.
I thought CBS was the sole rights holder and Paramount had a limited license to make the movies with CBS getting a cut.My understanding is that the rights to Trek movies belong to Paramount, not Bad Robot. So even if/when Bad Robot move on, Paramount will task someone else to make Trek movies.
I am pretty sure it is as @grendelsbayne said above, Paramount have ownership of Trek movies and CBS the TV shows. But again, not 100% sure.I thought CBS was the sole rights holder and Paramount had a limited license to make the movies with CBS getting a cut.
Plus if Paramount doesn't make a new Star Trek movie in a certain period of time, the license automatically expires.
They own their own movies, but "STAR TREK AND RELATED MARKS ARE TRADEMARKS OF CBS STUDIOS INC.", as it states on everything about the Kelvin films.I am pretty sure it is as @grendelsbayne said above, Paramount have ownership of Trek movies and CBS the TV shows. But again, not 100% sure.

Even if they lose the film right, they'll still own their own films, unless CBS buys them, which could happen, seeing as they own the licensing rights to them. Stuff like the new Kelvin game is done by CBS, not Paramount.
Is there anybody we can ask for clarification? As I understand it, they own their own movies *and* the exclusive right to make Star Trek branded movies. The fact that CBS owns the trademark on the name makes sense, since the tv show came first, but doesn't automatically mean CBS could ever stop them from making a Star Trek movie.
