Poll Will we ever get another Paramount movie?

Will we ever get another Paramount 'Star Trek' movie?

I voted "no".

I feel like Paramount has other priorities, and with Bad Robot leaving the Paramount lot, I don't see either of the new proposed films happening.

CBS will then get the film rights "back". They won't do anything with them for a while, but they'll be there, waiting.

Does anyone know for how long Paramount will have the Star Trek film rights? I thought it was more or less indefinitely... Do CBS even make blockbuster movies?

I think Paramount will make more Star Trek movies, but not with the current Kelvin crew and perhaps not with Bad Robot.

My understanding is that the rights to Trek movies belong to Paramount, not Bad Robot. So even if/when Bad Robot move on, Paramount will task someone else to make Trek movies.

There is time enough on Bad Robot's contract with Paramount to make another Trek movie, if the two sides are willing (and they were a few months ago, until negotiations with the Chris' broke down)

I don't think it's like Marvel and Fox, where the rights revert back if a movie isn't made in X number of years, but I could be mistaken. I do not know enough to say for sure.

There is no mechanism under which the rights rights would ever revert to CBS. I'm not even sure if Paramount would be allowed to sell them to CBS, since iirc, the whole reason they're split in the first place is because it was a legal requirement that Paramount and CBS had to be split up and the franchise had to be split between them.

Whether there will be another BR film or not is hard to say. I have heavy doubts about 'STIV'. But the Tarantino project has a bit more credibility. However, the Tarantino project need not necessarily be made with Bad Robot (unless there's news I haven't heard?).

In the end, there will eventually be another Star Trek movie, even if we don't know when. And it will probably be a Paramount film, unless Paramount ceases to exist before then.

Like what?
Star Trek is one of their more valuable properties, and along with Mission Impossible and Transformers it's one of the few reasons they still (barely) survive as a studio...
I feel Viacom is more interested in pushing Paramount down the TV production route, and things like Paramount Players for their bigger film output, which Star Trek doesn't fall under.

I meant more like they go "we can't be assed to do this ourselves or bring someone new in".

There will be another Paramount film but I think the Kelvin universe may be put to bed since the cast is so expensive and the returns have diminished.

I thought CBS was the sole rights holder and Paramount had a limited license to make the movies with CBS getting a cut.

Plus if Paramount doesn't make a new Star Trek movie in a certain period of time, the license automatically expires.

I think they'll just remake The Original Series on the big screen over and over again every decade or so.

I am pretty sure it is as @grendelsbayne said above, Paramount have ownership of Trek movies and CBS the TV shows. But again, not 100% sure.

EDIT: Wait I am sure, they produced documentation proving it during the Axanar court case.

They own their own movies, but "STAR TREK AND RELATED MARKS ARE TRADEMARKS OF CBS STUDIOS INC.", as it states on everything about the Kelvin films.

Even if they lose the film right, they'll still own their own films, unless CBS buys them, which could happen, seeing as they own the licensing rights to them. Stuff like the new Kelvin game is done by CBS, not Paramount.

As I understand it, they own their own movies *and* the exclusive right to make Star Trek branded movies. The fact that CBS owns the trademark on the name makes sense, since the tv show came first, but doesn't automatically mean CBS could ever stop them from making a Star Trek movie.

Is there anybody we can ask for clarification?

I voted Yes because, in my case, hope Springsteen eternal when it comes to another Kelvinverse movie!

:D

In thirty years or so there will be a full-on, unapologetic hard reboot movie.

Kor

Honestly, I don't care if we get another movie - the last one I liked was The Undiscovered Country.

I'll no doubt go and see another movie if it happens, but...
