Will SFA Season 2 Actually Air?

They'll also be thinking of the future. When 2009 came out, there was a noticable spike in DVD sales for the previous shows.

When they start their hype train for the next reboot, they know people will be checking out the most recent Treks... which will be on P+.
Trek is pretty much the only franchise that has reliable home video sales.

This thread title caught my eye when looking through the list of forums. I'm not a fan of SFA and didn't watch the second half of the first season, but Season 2 will air.

At worst, they'll drop all 10 episodes at once. Maybe they might put it on Netflix or something (like Prodigy Season 2). But they won't not air it after all the money they put into it. It's not going to be a Batgirl type of situation.

Im just wondering how much they've lost so far and if its worth releasing another season. I think they spent over 100 mil per season. But again they can release it first. If it fails they can do a tax write off. But I wonder what they would get back.

Well, they've lost the money in the acquisition so far. Not releasing a product would ensure that loss.

But, their finances are not going be shared with us.

Just that Disney a much larger company tax wrote off willow it just seems logical that paramount would want to do the same. Its a huge loss. Since SFA came out this year they might even have an opportunity to write off the first season. They could save millions.

A single series is a drop in the bucket versus the $13 billion they're already in debt. The WB sale is gonna grow that to $79 billion.

One season of Starfleet Academy ain't gonna do shit against that.

Not my concern. It doesn't make a difference to me. I don't watch and how much money they lose is a Rich Bastards' Problem, not mine.

Aside from that, why would you want them not to air it? Rhetorical question, no need for an answer. If it doesn't air, then all that does is a create a mystique around the season and make people more curious about it, not less.

Let me explain how this is a thing. I didn't care about the Batgirl movie at all, to be honest. But then it got cancelled most of the way through post-production and then suddenly that made me curious about it. Scrapping it made me want to see it. Going back to Star Trek. Waaaaayyyyyy back in 1991, when I first became a fan, finding out about "The Cage" and how it was rejected made me extremely curious to see it.

You should want Starfleet Academy Season 2 to air, run its course, and leave things to history. If it helps, think of it like this: Time flies. It'll be over before you know it.

Percentage wise it probably won't help them. The write off would be a pitence.

This.

It's not my money nor my business.

Disney which is a billion dollar company seemed to think a tax write off of a few paltry million was worth shelving the willow tv show for all time. Yes paramount will probably not do it but at the same time SFA will be on their platform just sitting there unwatched for years or decades making little to no money for them.

Once again, it seems we learn little from the past. We have no idea what the future holds for pretty much any property.

Supergirl bombed at the box office. Who knows what kind of life it will have after that? Same with SFA. Once the social media buzz saw it encountered in its run up will eventually die down. When that happens people may become amenable to judging it on its own terms.

Maybe but when old shows like King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond and SpongeBob were trouncing it in the paramount top 10 constantly I have my doubts it will ever catch on.

So what if it doesn't?

No one has given any indication as to why this is bad other than "no new Trek to complain about." It's bizarre to me because my Trek enjoyment isn't dependent on what's airing.

Unless I'm a shareholder I'm struggling to care about Paramount's money problems.

Disney had not just acquired a company and in process of acquiring another. The debt that Skydance is dealing with is huge.

Right. Disney didn't need the money but took the write off anyway. Paramount desperately needs any money they can get. They own star trek. I have a stake in them being a success and making money.

I don't.

I have the Star Trek I like. I do not require more.

I would like more. No more prequels or 32nd century nonsense. Just go the 25th years after picard with a new crew and mission. Actual deep space missions. No call backs to previous shows or movies for a long time. Also lets at least get rid of the 32nd century as actual canon.
