Will Quintos NuSpock Be Remembered LIke Nimoys Spock?

We're 15 years into the 21st century. WHERE ARE THE FLYING CARS?!

They are here but unfortunately they look a bit like airplanes with the dumb looking wings. Basically they are airplanes that can drive like a car when they land. Big deal I says.

They're not in widespread commercial use, and they surely can't hover. Nope, that don't count.

Either make a deLorean fly through VTOL or get off the pot, I say.

Delorean? Give me a time train!!!!

Ive been thinking about this a lot since Nimoys death. They have a special magazine devoted to him and trace his career from its earliest point to its last. I don't even think Deforest got something like this for his work as McCoy when he died. It got me wondering if Quinto will get such a send off even in 40 years and be remembered for playing a version of Spock that took a hold of a generation of Sci fi fans. There are a few reasons I think he wont. Number one there is so much sci fi now that NuTrek really doesn't distinguish itself a whole lot especially since it focuses on action and less on drama and story. Also at the point we are at in the movies NuSPock is not really much like the original Spock and doesnt have that cool calculating manner Spock had in TOS that made him a hit with fans. Another reason may be that Quinto will most likely be leaving the role after the 3rd movie to move onto something else and there will be only 6 hours of NuSpock compared to nearly a hundred hours of Nimoys version. Basically I think as a icon Spock will alsways be Nimoys and anyone after will just be playing the character and not have that same hold on the character.

Nimoy In my mind was the Heart of the star trek cast. I look at Quintos as a nice fit for the role but if I truly remember Quintos it would be for the role of Sylar on Heroes. However if you look at him like a transplant of a beating heart then yes. So my answer is no. I stand by him as a good choice. He still has a long life ahead of him.

Looks like Quinto's problem isn't Nimoy but Sylar!

Not a problem for me, as I never watched Heroes.

It won't unless he is killed by a lone gunman. Much more competition on both tv and blockbuster front nowadays.

Nimoy was typecast for years as Spock. This won't be true for Quinto.

Similarly, I expect Adam West will be remembered as Batman, but Christian Bale won't.

I think Christian bale just might be. Well maybe not hes done some good acting since like in American Hustle.

Dude was nominated for an Academy Award for that movie. People who are typecast generally aren't nominated for vastly different roles. Ergo, I don't think Bale is typecast, nor suffering from it.

As well, we're a lot more forgiving of typecasting these days than in the 60s (see: Hugh Jackman forever as Wolverine, but he still keeps getting non-X-Men parts and invitations to Broadway). If TOS started 10 years ago with 30 yr-old Nimoy in the Spock role, he probably would've seen more doors open at this point.

Probably because there is a more fragmented pop culture.

I think Bale will be. The trilogy of films he starred in are, in my opinion, the best of the bunch from the Batman franchise. I reckon a lot of people still associate, and think quite highly of Micheal Keaton with the role due to the decent quality of the movies he starred in, and those two films were not as highly regarded as the Nolan trilogy.

This is no disrespect to Mr. Quinto who I believe does a fantastic job as Mr. Spock, but no, I don't think he'll be remembered as well as Nimoy's Spock. Nor will the rest of the NuTrek cast.

All of the original cast members are iconic. Not only did they originate those roles but they also played them longer than anyone has played any other character on TV or in the movies. 25 years later they were still playing Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

Unlike James Bond who is recast every 10 to 15 years, it was 43 years before anyone else took on those characters! That's a long time to be the only ones associated with a particular role before it's played by someone else. I think the new cast is fantastic and they do great jobs but they're not going to be remembered anywhere near the same as our original heroes.

Quinto is a fine actor, but unless he makes the Spock role his career the way Nimoy did for the next 35 or so years (which I don't think he will), I doubt he will be remembered for Spock like Nimoy is. Granted I can see a day where people stop comparing him to Nimoy all the time, but when Nimoy is in 2 of the 3 films (if you count the upcoming one), it's kind of hard not to compare the two actors.

Also, there was only one Leonard Nimoy. He was a phenomenal actor, and it's not a slight to Quinto to say Nimoy just is a better actor (at least when it comes to playing Spock): its not saying Quinto is bad, it's just a tribute to Nimoy for being that good.
