Will Jaylah Replace Chekov?

Or they could always have Piotr Chekov, Pavel's imaginary brother in the prime reality ("Day Of The Dove") who could be real in the alternate reality. Having to live in Pavel's shadow.

Don't kill off a character only to replace them with a copy-cat family member that was never seen before.

But, just about all aliens in Trek are humanoid!

They species do share a common ancestor after all. TNG: The Chase.

Hahaha
Even that definition in universe is cocky and arrogant...(I know the RL reason for it) Do Andorians, Vulcans and other aliens consider themselves humanoid? I doubt it, some of them were flying ships when humans were still living in caves.
But when you look at the star ship Enterprise, all the senior officers/heads of departments, bar one are human and from Earth. If that does not raise questions with the Sentient Equality commission, then what will?
According to the comics Keenser was discovered by Robau's ship, if he joined Starfleet and graduated as an officer, by the time he meets Scotty, decades later, he should be Scotty's boss not the other way round.

Maybe he doesn't want to be, for whatever reason. Riker didn't want to be captain for a while.
Riker was XO for 15 years, if you follow the comics, Keenser has been taking orders from other people probably less smart than him for almost 30. I don't think the writers realised the role they placed Keenser in, unless he is an enlisted personnel and not an officer.
Keenser is meant to be comic relief, however Keenser comes across as the Man Friday to Scotty's Robin Crusoe, subconscious racial transference going on there methinks.

IIRC, the comics do imply that Keenser was in fact Scotty's superior while they were on Delta Vega. It wasn't until being assigned to the Enterprise that Scotty was promoted over Keenser, but by then Starfleet was smoking some whacky granola with their staffing decisions, among them promoting a Cadet directly to Captain.

I'll be baffled and upset if they don't add her to the main cast. She was so clearly a fan favorite. From what I've seen, the reaction to her was and continues to be overwhelmingly positive. She's a fantastic character. They'd be crazy not to include her in the fourth movie.

Although it would be interesting, I suspect Jaylah will go the way of Carol Marcus -- never seen nor mentioned again. There is a litany of established characters who could replace Chekov. How about Kevin Riley?

The other option is that they just don't replace him at all. The other other option is that we'll never see a JJ-Trek 4 (and it's starting to look that way).

I would think Jaylah would fit the old role of Ensign Chekov as seen in TOS rather well. The Ensign (barely not a cadet) that still has much to learn about starships and might have a lot of odd preconceived notions about things...though not Russian things.

It seems like a no-brainer to bring back Jaylah. She's a fresh new character that could bring new storylines to explore...liked among the fanbase and easily marketable to the general audience. And her return as a main crew member would really help distinguish the Kelvinverse even further.

Even without Anton's tragedy, it would have been a good idea to bring her back.

I think realistic crew rotations should come in at some point in any case. Promotions and reassignments for existing cast, who can then be spun off, and new people in to replace them. I would already be pushing for Captain Sulu for instance. He should be a full commander who gets promoted to Captain and gets his own ship at the end of the next film.

How about Kevin Riley?

You're not alone. He's a fun character who either winds up looking silly (The Naked Time) or easily talked down from being vengeful/unwitting poison victim. (The Conscience of the King)

She'd actually make a perfect POV character who could represent the non-fans in the audience, an outlet for the characters to explain the essentials of the Star Trek universe like who are Klingons and why are they so pissed with us?

Just hope they don't overuse that schtick, her being the "why?" kid- she'd have learned something by then, but not everything she could ask about (the meaning of someone's private joke/taking offense at a comment that doesn't sound offensive on the surface/nuances/questioning why somebody doesn't just do or not do something that seems straightforward to her but escapes everybody else.)

I think adding Jaylah is a great idea! Hoping we get a 4th outing with the same writing team. I really love Beyond. It's in my heavy rotation along with TWOK, TUC, and 2009. These are all my go-tos but Beyond is best when I've had a bad day!

Having Jaylah as a bridge crew would give Uhura a new confidant as well as creating inter personal drama between Scottie and Jaylah just like the drama between Spock and McCoy exists.
