Will Discovery stand up to repeat viewings as the others do??

I disagree. I think the show has plenty of good to great moments. It's the plots and stories that are a letdown. Plots though don't mean as much in repeat viewings because we all know how the episodes end. I think everyone has at least a few characters they will enjoy watching again. The one negative though is Youtube. Why watch whole episodes when you can just go to Youtube and watch your favorites scenes and not bother with the boring stuff.

You see good to great moments that unrelated to the plots and stories?? What would they be? Wardrobe and mood lighting?

Jason Isaacs is pretty great, even after what they did to Lorca. I'll never watch his scenes again, most likely, but, man, I was glad he was there.

Captain Killy was fun.

Also, the props are cool, for the most part. The prop people did a good job, especially on that phaser.

Re-watching those early episodes knowing what we do now adds ALOT of dimension to his character. Where before we could think he was just conflicted and imperfect, now you can see he is actually VERY calculating and manipulative in ways that are almost terrifying to watch.

Even his discussion with Burnham about the ship of the dead takes on a new light. The whole reason he doesn't want her to beam over there is because she's his ticket onto the Emperor's ship. But he can't SAY that or even imply it without drawing suspicion, and you can see he is walking a fine line between "My plan" and "what I can get away with" and decides to let Burnham go anyway as a calculated risk.

Lorca is as sharp as a razor blade and twice as smooth.

Three issues for me:

Needs to develop the idea of the crew as a family of sorts who like and get on with each other. I know, I know,
umpteen producers have said this makes it hard to create drama. Well, they may be right up to a point, but this
was what was at the core of making TNG such a charming and successful show. They have to get over
the fact it makes things harder and stick to the tenets that allowed the franchise to become popular in the first place.

Bad pacing with some major plot points skimmed through in a minute or two. Makes for a very uneven viewing experience.

Gratuitous insertion of dumb hand to hand combat. We're only getting 12 episodes, so as much as possible every minute should be a carefully crafted character study. Pissing away time on this nonsense really is inexcusable.

Sort these and the show has the potential to be great. I love the characters and I love the actors playing them.

I watched it again. It plays better the second time but that is because of the characters are usually what helps repeat viewings so bad plot stuff becomes less of a issue. I disagree that Lorca works better the second time around but the actor was so good so he is still fun to watch. Burnham is pretty unchanged. Kind of boring and stiff and also one thing I noticed is she always comes off like she is making a speech even in casual conversations. It's like she is suppose to be making these grand and important statements but the writing never makes them feel grand or important. I even hated the Klingons more the second time and I never noticed how much the contact lenses also bother me, with them. I did enjoy the action stuff though better and also the war not having scope didn't seem like much of a issue the second time though I guess that goes towards plot related stuff.

I couldn't even make it through episode 2 because Burnham, that said, I've seen every episode of Discovery multiple times when it was showing.

I won't watch Star Trek Discovery S1 again probably, one of the things also with 100% serial shows is they don't really play as well to rewatching as well as serial/episodic shows do. For example, literally watched Evangelion probably HUNDREDS of times and despite being serial, each episode has it's own episodic storyline so it's very rewatchable and you can just watch pretty much any episode standalone, same with Deep Space 9 which I've watched probably a dozen times if not more.

I don't think I've ever really come back and watched any completely serial show.

As long as most of its episodes are more watchable than
Miri
This side of Paradise
The Apple
Catspaw
The Gamsters of Triskellion
Spock's Brain
And the Children Shall Lead
Spectre of the Gun
Wink of an Eye
The Empath
The Mark of Gideon
The Lights of Zetar
Cloud Minders
Turnabout Intruder
Code of Honor
Justice
Haven
Angel One
The Child
The Outrageous Okona
Loud as a Whisper
Shades of Gray
The Bonding
Qpid
Half a Life
In Theory
The Masterpiece Society
Imaginary Friend
Man of the People
Force of Nature
Sub Rosa
If Wishes were Horses
The 37s
Threshhold
Acquisition
Demons/Terra Prime
These Are the Voyages

It should be no problem.
