Will 7 of 9 age slowly

david kelly

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
It was never addressed in the series proper but it's something that has me curious. I know with the removal of many of her implants she lost many abilities. But with the naboprobes remaining in her body will that slow down her aging process or will she age like a normal human?

If they ever revisit Seven in future Trek, they'll have little choice but to have her age as human. If not... whatever you imagine.

Hadn't thought but wouldn't her organics age and her Borg bits just need upgrading? Borg children seem to age into adults following species 'norms'.

Barclay mentions that nanoprobes retard ageing.

TROI: Why are you hiding in the corner?
BARCLAY: I'm not hiding. I'm working on a way to foil the Ferengi's' plans.
TROI: Reg, there's nothing left to foil. The Carolina will have them in custody within the hour.
BARCLAY: Leosa said the Ferengi were going to be selling Borg nanoprobes.
TROI: What does that have to do with Voyager?
BARCLAY: They have a Borg crewman. Think about it. The Ferengi stole the original Barclay hologram a month ago. That gave them time to reprogramme it and then smuggle it to Voyager in the next transmission.
TROI: Reprogramme it to do what?
BARCLAY: Steal Seven of Nine's nanoprobes. For all we know he could be dissecting her right now.
TROI: What would the Ferengi want with assimilation technology?
BARCLAY: Oh, nanoprobes aren't just for assimilating. They can reanimate necrotic tissue, slow down the aging process. They'd be priceless for the Ferengi.
TROI: Reg, even if the Ferengi did reprogramme your hologram to steal the nanoprobes, how would they get their hands on them? Voyager's thirty thousand light years away.
BARCLAY: I haven't figured that part out yet. Maybe they discovered a wormhole, or a subspace corridor.
TROI: Have you mentioned any of this to Commander Harkins?
BARCLAY: Not yet. I can't. If I don't bring him hard evidence, he'll just think that I'm fantasising. For the time being, we need to keep this between us.

The problem is that Seven of nine (24 years old in Scorpion) was much Younger than 29 year old Jeri Ryan (in Scorpion).

So does that mean that her nano probes were shit? Seven of Nine looked like was staring down the barrel of 30, while assuring everyone that yes she was barely old enough to drink alcohol.

Yes, Jeri looked 30, exactly, but the character was 24.

Another possibility is that because they put her in maturation chamber shortly after assimilating the poor girl, that a year later, she stepped out of her chamber with a 29 year old's body, which never aged for the next 15 years because nanoprobes stop the ageing process.

Yeah.. I don't know. Are we to believe that a regular (Earth) child of six growing into a 24 year old is going to age differently than a child of 6 in a maturation chamber for eighteen years? My understanding of the maturation chamber is fuzzy. Don't they sort of grow in there? Isn't there a Borg baby on Voyager somewhere ready to hatch into an ensign?

A maturation chamber increases your rate of maturation.

That's what it's for.

Skipping the unproductive years in the humanoids life-cycle.

Stick a child, or an adolescent in there for a year or two, to force ten plus years of growth, or until you have an ideal MATURE drone.

Janeway said that Icheb's parents might have trouble recognising him because he had spent a while in a maturation chamber.

JANEWAY: Hello. I'm Captain Janeway.
(Icheb's mother speaks first.)
YIFAY: Icheb.
LEUCON: You've grown.
SEVEN: He spent several months in a Borg maturation chamber.
JANEWAY: This is Seven of Nine.
YIFAY: That's a Borg designation, isn't it?
SEVEN: Like your son, I was liberated from the Collective.
JANEWAY: Seven has been instrumental in helping Icheb make his transition.
LEUCON: Then we're very grateful to you. I'm Leucon, Icheb's father. This is his mother, Yifay.
YIFAY: How are you?
ICHEB: Fine.

Thank you. I was being lazy in my understanding.

I think Seven would live a lot longer, and she wouldn't even need The Cellular Regeneration and Entertainment Chamber. :)

It's sort of a thing in Hollywood that Characters appear older than than they are meant to. I don't think Tom and Be'lanna are supposed to be in their 30's, but the actors are. I think Roxanne Dawson was older than 35 when the show began.

A rare exception to this was Picard. Picard was supposed to be in his mid 60's but played by an actor who looked to be in mid 40's.

Hard to say about the children since if a child is assimilated it goes into a maturation chamber and is quickly brought to adulthood.

Well, if Seven of Nine was able to go through childhood, adolescence to become a young lady of 24 years old, it is clear that she was able to age and some years as an adult

Do the books deal with this any?

I'd assume her nanoprobes would probably check her aging process somewhat, though I imagine it continued when the Caeliar removed all Borg tech from everyone.

They kind of do and kin of don't

spoiler

in the books the borg are totally gone...Seven ends up loosing ALL of her Borg technology.

In Timeless we say that half her brain is a toaster.

Did they reinflate Anika's brain, add filler, or is she a halfwit?

interesting question. In Timeless we only saw that her skull was metalic. The way the events were described in the book, durring the transformation that material would have been replaced with organic material.

I remember seeing a cross section of her scull.

This is all I could find though.
