Why USS Cerritos of all names?

I mean - why give a Latino-sounding name to one of “the least important ships in Starfleet” seemed like a good idea to the creators in these tense times?

Because "USS Cheerios" would be too silly? Not to mention, the title of "USS Frosted Flakes" is too overt.

And if this were Family Guy, that's what they probably would do: Name it "USS Frosted Flakes, registry NCC-8675309", with Captain Jennifer Twotone and she says not "engage" but "that's greaaat!". (ugh)

Cerritos translates to 'little hills'. The word is sometimes used as a slang term for breasts....more derogatory when used to describe smaller ones or those which are not yet fully developed.

Interestingly, one of the translations of quito is 'grab'.

Along with some of the skimpy female attire in the first two episodes, things start to get slightly suspicious....:shifty:

having grown up in soCal during the 80s, the first thing i thought of when they announced the ship's name were those old cerritos auto square commercials. they ran incessantly on afternoon TV throughout reruns of chips, knight rider, and airwolf on KTLA 5.

I've never heard of the city till I put "Cerritos" into the Google search bar. I'd assumed it was Greek. I'm still a bit stunned that it's not something from Greek mythology.

I believe Creator, Executive Producer, Show Runner "Mike McMahan" explains it clearly in this video.

Considering I've grown up in SoCal, I've known from day 1 that it's a reference to a suburb city in LA.

Sure it's weird, but there are a lot of weird people out there XD
He said back then that he learned it in his training for audiovisual design or something like that

Could be worse, I've encountered people on a Doctor Who forum who insist on referring to the actors playing the Doctor as Matthew Smith and Jodie Contreras.
