I am waiting for the new topic about how Steam Trek is another universe, and Scooty was not a comic relief, but blah blah blah to you Fans of Steam Trek are oppressing me and opinions, its not my fault you fans are not "True Fans" and are only impressed by flashy lights and piano music.

No he believes that Spock Prime and Nero are from an entirely different universe altogether. He says that so he can feel all warm and gooey inside.

People tend to not realize how much a father plays a role in a son's life. They even made a comparison in the movie, when nuKirk asked if his father was there to see him in Starfleet, and Spock replied that he was able to see Kirk take command of the Enterprise.

In all honesty, I can relate to nuKirk more than Kirk because nuKirk seems more human. This new crew seems more human. They make mistakes, they feel pain if they see their loved one in pain, they're arrogant, they're divorced, and of course they learn from their mistakes.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about the new crew.

It still won't work, there will be 25 pages of in one topic alone explaining why Trek XII is not in the same universe as the Prime Universe. In fact, 24 and a half pages will be Trek XI haters going on and on about how they were oppressed by the fans of Trek XI and because they were watching Trek since 1915, that they are the true fans.

Of course they're oppressed fans! You only like the new movie because you're not thinking for yourself, and in order to think for yourself you have to completely agree with them! The reason you like the braindead movie is because you're a braindead idiot, and I'm going to report you to the mods for resorting to slinging insults at me!

Nobody's being "opressed". Non-STXI fans like myself have just as much right as fans do to post here if we wish. The only difference is that, for the most part, we don't sling insults at the fans or call them names. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for fans in (dis)respect to non-fans. And that is sad. This is supposed to be a place of discussion and debate. Not name calling and insult slinging. I have been on the receiving end of my share of mud being slung at my by those who think there's something wrong with me because I don't just love JJA's interpretation of Star Trek with all my heart and soul. I have problems with this movie. And I post my opinions and give explanations for why I feel the way I do. Most of the responses I get are similar to the one above. Personally, I have nothing against anyone who likes the new movie. If you like it, yay for you. Tell me why you like it. Rebut my claims and explanations for why I think most of the movie is rubbish. Don't just insult me and call me a "canonist". I've done nothing to you. All I ask is that you be nice. Now, I'm not just speaking for myself, I'm speaking on behalf of all Non-STXI fans. We have just as much right as you to post here and have civilized discussions. That's what we are supposed to be doing on a Star Trek discussion board. "Discussing". Not insulting each other. Thank you for your time and live long and perspire.

Come now, thats not true. There will always be folks on both sides of any discussion that take the low road. No one has a monopoly.

I couldn't agree more. The suggestion to the contrary is outrageous.

I'm sorry, but I have to differ with you on that point. I've been posting on boards like these since long before the movie actually came out. And I've seen it over and over again. Just read back over the last couple of pages. Just because one doesn't accept this new movie as pure Star Trek doesn't mean that person is some kind of "insurgent" or "dissenter". In simply means that person has a different opinion as those who think the movie is just fine and dandy Trek. As I stated, there's no reason to be sarcastic, insulting, or rude. I'm used to it. Happens all the time.

Zim, my post wasn't at you, it was directed at the others who have actually said that the movie fans were actually oppressing them.

Alright, that's all well and good, but that isn't what you said. You straight up said one side of this debate is responsible for the mudslinging whereas the other side of it doesn't resort to such measures and that is completely untrue. It never works that way on a forum on any subject where the members disagree. The evidence is all over the place.

As I stated, there's no reason to be sarcastic, insulting, or rude.

Indeed, there is not. That, however, doesn't keep people who dislike the movie from being just that way every bit as often as people who like it resort to such methods of getting their point across.

I'm all in favor of civility myself, but, honestly, the lapses haven't been one-sided. I've lost track of how many posts I've seen that imply that anyone who likes the new movie is shallow, immature, juvenile, easily impressed, sycophantic, and lacking in taste. Not to mention the frequent implications that anyone who really understands and appreciates STAR TREK is obliged to dislike the new direction.

It's this kind of attitude that, unfortunately, tends to rub people the wrong way. Just as, I'm sure, being dismissed as a dogmatic fundamentalist riles you.

Ideally, we should be discussing the movie, not casting aspersions on each others' tastes, but there has been a lot of sniping from both sides.

Everytime I hear them say that rubbish, I hear the Monty Python's Holy Grail I am oppressed voice.

Again, I beg to differ. I realize that there are non-fans who do resort to insults to a certain degree. However, the fans are in the majority. And I can cite multitudes of comments from "fans" insulting and demeaning "non-fans" because they don't share the same opinions. The contrary is rare. It does, happen, but not as often.
