Why is ST09's altered timeline a problem?

As I said, they MUST have it all arranged out in an orderly manner in their heads. It must ALL be explained, must ALL make sense to them. If it doesn't, to them, then something is wrong with it. And all those many, many people who accept it? Must be something wrong with them (TEH STOOPID, K-A DRINKERS).

Because nothing could be wrong with the "true fans".

No way.

Now you're getting it. Thank you.

Besides. Personally, I like to know how and why things work. When something happens that, to me, looks rediculous, I want an explanation.

When everyone knows that TOS was actually a shameless reboot of FORBIDDEN PLANET that blatantly violated the canon . . . . :)

Actually, I can't argue with that. GR said on a couple of occasions that FP was one of his influences when creating Star Trek. And that's no bad thing. Forbidden Planet was one of if not THE greatest Sci-Fi movie of all time (in my opinon, of course).

The writer can say "Red" in interviews and have the characters say "Red" on screen and somewhere a fan will say "Blue!"

The writers are saying one thing, but the movie doesn't make it clear one way or the other whether it's "Red" or "Blue". The dialogue can and has been interpreted several different ways.

The movie makes it quite clear. But has no need to bury the audience in expository technobabble, thankewvuruhmuch.

But to the canonistas, this doesn't matter. The movie was TEH STOOPID and so is anyone who enjoys it.

Yean. Unfortunately, most of the movie was pretty stupid. But overall, it was actually an enjoyable, fun, action flick about a bunch of folks flyin' around in outer space blowin' stuff up, and stuff. If you don't try to think about it too much. Once you put your brain to work on the plot, to paraphrase Shaggy Rogers, "it just don't make no sense at all".:guffaw:

It still won't work, there will be 25 pages of in one topic alone explaining why Trek XII is not in the same universe as the Prime Universe. In fact, 24 and a half pages will be Trek XI haters going on and on about how they were oppressed by the fans of Trek XI and because they were watching Trek since 1915, that they are the true fans.

Hey, hey, HEY! Now don't be hating on Star Trek: 1915--the Trek to end all Treks! The adventures of Captain Rickenbacker and the crew of the USS Roosevelt are the best the franchise has ever produced! Seriously. Though, one does get kind of tired of the "Space Huns" episodes, after awhile. "Over There--Where No Man Has Gone Before" is the bestest episode evah! Just wish Edgar Rice Burroughs could've written more episodes. demm.

I'd have to agree. WNMHGB is one of, if not the best TOS episode ever. Followed closely by The Cage. Yes, I know you were being sarcastic. Doesn't bother me. But I do agree with that statement.

Nah. "Unsinkable," the one where the luxury space cruiser hit the ice-asteroid, was the best ep. You gotta love the moment where the alien jazz band keeps playing even while the women and children are being loaded into the escape pods. Makes me choke up every time.

And don't forget the visit to the Suffragette Planet!

"Bloomers? What are bloomers?"

And Trek has never been the same since they got rid of the title cards. Talkies are just for morons who can't read!

:guffaw: Aw, hell. Now I'm going to be spending all night trying to "reimagine" Trek as a Silent Film era production. I'm not going to get any real work done at all. sigh.

Theda Bara was unforgettable as the vampish Queen of the Suffragette World, who nearly seduced the entire bridge crew!

Personally, I think Chaplin is under-appreciated in his role as the alien ambassador. The antennae and huge ears from that make up preceded, and was arguably the model for later Andorian and Ferengi designs.

And Willis O' Brien's vision of the Gorn homeworld was brilliant! I buy his stop motion Gorns and dino-behemoths more than modern CGI versions.

I can't wait for the piano soundtrack. I loved the episode where the Roosevelt discovered that a Federal commissioner resurrected the Confederacy, and placed Capt Fairbanks and his highly controversial first officer, Lt Washington, were placed on a work farm on a remote island in the deep Pacific.
