Why is DS9 400 behind all the other shows on Best shows list?

Because people ared dumb, that's why. Any show that requires a bit of thinking such as all the Star Treks, Babylon 5, Stargate and so on are ranked behind all the mindless action stuff.
All in the Family, the blueprint for so many sitcoms (including #1 Simpsons) is #55, between iCarly and Adventure Time. That is criminal.
I think the reason DS9's stock is rising is that people originally watched it through TNG colored glasses and now people are able to watch it without bias.
It may also be a generational thing. Fans that imprinted on DS9 and Voyager as kids are now old enough to vote in on-line polls and magazine surveys and such.
I used to theorize, back in the eighties, that STAR TREK didn't really become profitable until those of us who got hooked on TOS as kids grew up and got disposable incomes, thus creating a viable market for TREK movies and merchandise.
There may be something similar going on with the latter-day shows.

People are different, no need to turn this negative.
Mindless is sometimes what's wanted for entertainment (which is all this is) after a long stressful day of work. Intelligent people want to shut down their brains off now and then, there's no reason to be so judgmental about it.
People like what they like, it's like art. Sometimes there's a rational explanation, sometimes it's unknown. But it doesn't have to be based off of ones intelligence.
Plus, on a Trek board, of course people are going to be baffled that their particular show isn't #1 on the planet. Where in reality, I'm sure most people don't even know what a deep space nine is anymore, let alone to seek it out and enjoy it.
Exactly. Depending on my mood, I may want to watch something sophisticated and challenging, or I may want to veg out in from of an old 1950s monster movie or whatever.
I've noticed a trend. People I talk to who watched DS9 in the first season when it was first on often didn't finish the series and have a negative attitude toward it. People I talk to who watched DS9 for the first time after it ended love it. This isn't just nerds, this includes my 61 year old mother who doesn't exactly have nerdy tastes. I didn't even introduce her to it, she just emails me one day, says she started watching it on Netflix and asks me about it.
DS9 came out before it had an audience. Emmisary is the highest rated Star Trek episode of all time, and a lot of people who would have loved it later didn't give it a second chance.

Wow. I'm surprised Voyager is that high. Or that TNG is so far ahead. I would think TNG or TOS would be #1.
startrek.com is a notorious haven for Voyager fans (kind of like this site used to a a haven for DS9 fans). I would put little stock in any of their polls.
i've felt for a while that DS9 is a post-9/11 show that predates it. It became more relevant to the audience after it ended. It also matches in with a modern interest in serialized drama with less of an episodic feeling.

They're also shows that are currently airing and have huge ratings week after week.
To add, they're also not indicative of intelligence. I don't know why people feel better by going back to that line over and over again.
