Why is Captain Robau so popular?

I said it in the Robau thread, and I'll elaborate here. He goes on a shuttlecraft, alone, to a gigantic unknown ship that just disabled his ship with a few shots.

He is then brought for questioning, and what does he do?

"Who is your Captain? Is it him?"
"Then ask Captain Nero what gives him the right to attack a Federation vessel."

When they ask for the stardate, he looks at them like they're friggin' crazy.

Iron balls there, simply balls O'iron.

I have to agree that Capt. Robau did handle the situation with the right amount of machismo and a lot of integrity. He basically knew it was a suicide mission and still chose to leave his ship in the hopes that he could save his crew. That, in my book, is a definition of a hero.

I also have to give props to G. Kirk as well. After Capt. Robau was killed he knew the Kelvin could not survive much more. He gave the order to leave Kelvin and then realized he couldn't leave because he had to manually pilot the vessel. I thought it was a great scene when young James T. Kirk was just born and G. Kirk knew he would never see his family again, yet still decided to ram the Kelvin up Nero's @$$!!! Almost brought a tear to me eye ;)

Ass ramming usually does old boy.

The man just looks the part.

When someone says something like "Robau once made a Klingon crap his pants by simply resting his iron-clad and mighty testicles on said Klingon's forehead and declaring that he was now Robau's bitch and should fuck off to make some pie like the little bollockhead he is" it just. sounds. plausible.

One thing I can't figure out, is why is the Kelvin's Captain Robau so popular on this board? He was killed in the first five minutes of this film but he seems to be incredibly popular.

Thank you. I've been wondering that, myself.

In-joke. Like the sombreros.

That makes the most sense to me, if only because this obsession with him seems to have predated the movie's premier by several months! :shifty:

Well, I just got here and I think he's badass. And Faran usually gets stuck in terrorist roles, and here he was noble and heroic. It was very much in the spirit of the original series to have a multi-racial Starfleet. Good for him.

Because he faced death in the eye, remained cool in Chuck Norris/Vin Diesel proportions, and gave his life to help save his crew. This is from a younger man's point of view :)

Also, even in 5 minutes he's a vast departure from the usual, incompetent non-hero Trek captains.

This man speaks the truth.

Robau would take that pussy Harriman from Generations and sell him into sexual slavery in Cambodia.

Joe, live

Robau knew he was likely to die, but he went anyway. That's a plus. And when he got there, he didn't beg or plead, he asked, 'what gives you the right?'

I've posted it before and I say again... left his ship, talked a microscopic amount of smack and was promptly gutted. I don't see the bad-ass-osity in that.

Now George Kirk... he was a bad-ass, big damn hero.

PREACH! Preach it, Dale! PREACH!

Well, it's not like he was given the chance to beg and plead. By the time the shock of the staff turning into a meat cleaver wore off, he was dead. I'll give Nero this... he's the fastest cardboard cutout I have ever seen.

We have seen said negotiator hop a weapons concole give an entirely too stiff upper lipped "that'll be the day" and continue to fire his ships weapons while all around were dead or dying.

That was an alternate universe where the Feddies were being trounced by the Static Klingons.

Unrelated to McMenemy's post, I too would love to see a series or miniseries about the Kelvin. I don't dislike Robau, I just don't feel we saw enough of him to get a good gauge.

He flew straight into the maw of the beast without flinching, but you could tell he was absolutely petrified. That, to me, is the mark of a true hero.

Agreed. Likewise, George Kirk. I loved that you could see on his face that he was terrified, but he flew that ship into the Narrada, anyway.

My confusion about the Robau love genuinely came largely from the pre-release fervor over him. I can fully understand people's affection and respect for the character having now seen it.

He's popular cos he's BALD. BALD = BADASS!

But, I'm not sure why he's so revered. I mean, he didn't even get a chance to even fight Nero. He just got stabbed in the chest with a Romulan trident...

Not sure what's so badass about that...but that's just me.

He should have at least gotten in some punches. Hell, Kirk got in more punches than Robau did.

I liked him as he seemed more like a real starfleet captain than anyone else in the rest of the movie. Seriously.

There was an interview with someone long before the movie came out where they said that Robau wouldn't be the usual "idiot captain that Kirk is so much better than", that he'd be bad ass.

The Robau love went from there up into the stratosphere because Faran Tahir just looks so cool :techman:

To me, both Robau and Kirk Sr were awesome heroes - it's been talked about a lot in other threads that the Kelvin scenes were the best of the movie.

he really should've told Nero where to go and then blown his ship to kingdom come though.

"negotiate a cease-fire?! YOU ATTACKED US!!!! DIE YOU POINTY-EARED BASTARD!"

So, how come we are not calling him "Pete" yet? In the novel, his name is Captain Pierre Robau.

Because he is cool, sexy and totally delicious. This is from a older woman's point of view.

He really is pretty hot, although I find Pike hotter. And I'm 26. I like them a bit older. :D

On this board though, this badass thing came from one of the writers' comments about Robau being badass, I think.

He was cool in this movie, but he was a real jerk when he kidnapped Tony Stark in Iron Man.

So is Faran Tahir aware fo these threads? I'd love to hear his response...and especially video if he were to go a to Trek convention.

Where are most of the Robau-lovers from? Where would guys go to se ehim (seriously -- no exaggerations)?
