Why I'm looking forward to "Star Trek: Discovery"

If the Abrams films actually depicted my "old friends" from TOS, I probably would feel the same. During TOS I never got the feeling that Kirk was getting progressively more bored with his job during his first couple of years as captain.

Kirk was a complicated guy. Hence his, "no beach to walk on" coming to the surface during "The Naked Time". Plus, season one Kirk was really just Pike renamed. A character who also had questions about what he really wanted.

Kind of human nature to have doubts from time to time.

Which is the hope. But this is still a franchise property, and I imagine CBS will be monitoring every bit of it very closely and making "suggestions".
If Fuller can produce a show like Hannibal on the NBC network, CBS All-Access will be a walk in the park ;)

I really do think the show has potential, given the people behind it. I've been sort of burned out on Star Trek since the early days of Voyager, but it's nice to see the concept coming back to TV because I do think it works best there. Hopefully we'll get a new fresh take on the universe, updated to more modern TV standards.

As for the ship design, I'm willing to give it a pass for now, we'll see what they do with it.

I am cautiously optimistic for the new series.

Stuff I'm excited about:
-TV storytelling techniques have evolved massively in the last decade
-Looks like a good team so far that actually understands what is great about Star Trek

Stuff I'm not excited about:
-inherent distrust of CBS
-strong likelihood series is another prequel

Well let's see...

Big star trek fan.

I thought Hannibal was a masterpiece..

I think that speaks for itself.

Well, technically the best time is when it airs, but I'm really looking forward to this. To say the least.

Personally I'm very excited because I feel the small screen is where Star Trek really belongs. I love all the series (some a bit more than others) and can't wait for this one.

13 episodes is way too short though (although I must admit I prefer quality over quantity). Hopefully a 2nd series will be produced after one or two seasons of Discovery so that we can have 26 episodes of Star Trek a year.

Let the movies be the movies and the TV series be its own things.

Getting so excited and saying it will be the best Trek ever when we really don't know anything is not optimistic, it's buying a hype.

I doubt the show will be better then DS9, I don't even think it will be better then TNG. I could write up something better then VOY in 30 min.

Let's wait and see.
