Why I hate the new star trek movies!!!

in any case i am glad they didn't reboot the original series with the same characters as i wouldn't of wanted that either, i am not keen on new actors playing those classic roles, in my opinion that actors that played those roles are irreplaceable. a couple of movies is easier to ignore then a whole series so at least i have that to be thankful for...

You want to make a star trek movie? Fine, but the tv show has to come first, you develop a new set of characters that the audience get to know and love, then you put those characters in a movie, thats how star trek works. Why should i buy into chris pine as james t kirk or zachary quinto as spock, the actors who played those roles are irreplaceable, i don't want to see different actors playing those roles. If you are going to have different actors playing those roles in a reboot of the old show at least do the tv show first, going straight to the movie is just cheating, its nothing more then a cynical lazy cash in on the star trek licence and its absolutely pathetic. As far as i am concerned these modern ''star trek'' movies have nothing to do with the real star trek universe, i view them on the same level as the fan made star trek episodes that you see on youtube. I refuse to even watch them, i have not and will not do so. For me TNG was the golden age of star trek, it hasn't quite hit those heights since in my opinion although I also loved the Voyager series. I am looking forward to the new star trek series in 2017, i hope it will bring star trek back to its former glories and recapture the magic.

The Abrams movies are, essentially, a reboot. The timeline stuff was a bone tossed to fans.

As far as the actors go, I think they did a masterful job recasting the characters I grew up loving.

well its only logical that a new generation of kids and young adults growing up probably haven't seen where star trek began, or at least most of them haven't, for them these movies are there first experience with star trek...

It is make believe. Gene Roddenberry was a TV producer looking to make a paycheck. Don't buy the hype.

You can't possibly be any more invested in the TOS characters than I am, and I love the Abrams movies.

You don't know this at all. Star Trek is a cultural phenomenon. Ask any person on the street who Kirk, Spock, and the Enterprise is and they'll know.

Face it, this is all just your opinion, and not a very astute one. And while it's fine to have opinions, don't be trying to pass them off as if they're any kind of fact.

i don't see any reason why they couldn't of done that in a tv show format, you could have a unique episode each week in the same style as previous series' but occasionally you'll have an episode in there focused on the main story, not every single episode has to be focused on the main story.

The last TV show had been cancelled only a few years before, and the final prime universal film had just flopped big time. This was the only realistic option to reinvigorate the franchise. And it worked.

i just wanted to get a few things off my chest that have been on my mind, i didn't intend for it to be hateful or aggressive or at all so i am sorry if you took it that way.

I don't think it's so much hateful or aggressive. I get that you'd rather it had been much more like TNG, but those are not the cast of characters they went with.

Mostly, though, this isn't really a topic. It's a collection of statements which have in common that they're your opinions about things, but they don't really hang together as a topic for discussion.

Your opening post would have been better-suited as a journal entry or blog post. As the beginning of a thread, however, it goes in too many different directions to provide a topic for a single unified discussion, so I'll leave it here, but I'll close it.
