Nope the opening scene is great. In fact I've never seen anybody make fun of the opening scene before in all my years on this site.
I'll tell you what's hard to believe somebody sensing from the first opening scene of the movie that there was something wrong.
That comes off to me as...
' I'm so smart I knew from the opening scene....."

And exactly how does this incredible knowledge and foresight in seeing the first scene of the movie and realizing the movie was in trouble relate to a thread titled -- "Why do you rank TFF highly?
I guess that seems to some people be an open invitation for a bunch of lazy nitpicking.

I thought the movie looked intense, different, and immediately engaging by the way the pre-credits scene unfolded. I thought it was awesome.
Different strokes and all.
I mean the guy says: "Wow, you're a Vulcan!!!" or something to that effect... Doesn't that imply that Vulcans are rare on that planet? And most likely not indigenous?
It's a little surprising that he didn't assume he was a Romulan, what with them being 1/3rd of the governing powers...
I admit, I rather liked the opening pre-credits scene. We all have our views and as long as we can be polite in describing those views, we can voice them.
As for how Sybok got to Nimbus 3, we know that there are other means of transport besides starships.
