Why do they never take their uniforms off?

Spock, after hours.
I always thought that Spock was wearing his uniform trousers and boots with that robe.

Yes, he was. He was wearing that white one too, but with the uniform underneath (without the red jacket)

I cringed every time Starfleet personnel wore civilian clothes on DS9. Most of the time, they looked like color-blind pimps. Other times they were monochrome bores. (I blame Garak.)

If that's the way they dress in the future, I'm packing my jeans and shirts when I time-travel.

On TOS, the ladies looked nice in civilian clothes and I wouldn't be surprised if they brought their own clothes from home considering the budgets they were working under.

It wasn't just DS9. Civilian clothes looked just as horrible on TNG and Voyager.

it's the future... unforms are stretchy lycra stuff with padding and form fitting underwire... fashion went out the window decades ago lmao

but on the plus side... lycra uniforms lmao

When does fashion from any other decade look like a good idea? If clothes from the past look unwearable and make you :guffaw:, then shouldn't clothes from the future do so, too?

Kira and Jadzia were wearing nice dresses in You are cordially invited..But The Sisko Outfits were, as we all know, godawful.

Any of you military/Navy people want to weigh in on this? What’s the dress policy for general duty, off-duty hours, shore leave, et cetera?

You could wear civvies if you were coming or going from leave or liberty.

No civvies while the ship was underway.

Semper Paratus

I'm glad someone in the navy finally said this. I'm a sailor too, and when the ship's underway, I can't take my uniform off, except to sleep or take a shower. And even then, the uniform's got to be close at hand, in case there's a fire or something. The uniform has fire retardant properties.

I used to wonder the same thing as the OP, but after having sailed, I realise what's unrealistic is them ever being in civies at all while the ship is underway. Also, them having civilians and kids on board in TNG doesn't really make sense either.

It might make more sense if you think of the Enterprise as a mobile starbase; in that case, wearing civvies off-duty and having families and civilians onboard is understandable.
