Why do they never take their uniforms off?

For fun can people think of some example when we saw the crews "chillaxing" in regular clothes on board? Not including holodeck time, shore leave, etc

The Sisko at the start of Way of the Warrior always springs to mind

Avery Brooks probably came to work dressed like that.

I remember having a Star Trek encyclopedia CD type game and his dressing in that made that picture look conservative.

The closest analogue to Star Trek would a Navy ship on deployment.

When you are underway in the Navy, you wear a uniform 100% of the time, even when "off duty". Even if you are working out in the gym, you still have to wear something that meets the approval of the Navy.

The only time I can recall civilian attire being allowed is when leaving the ship or coming aboard the ship. You have to change out of civvies pretty much immediately when you get on, and you can't change into them again until you're about to depart.

After all the uniform is functional, or should be, and you never know when you will be stuck in a Jeffries Tube with a bunch of children.

I think there are days when Starfleet personnel aren't just off-duty, but also not scheduled for duty for a particular day, and this is when we see them in civilian clothes. Otherwise, they may only take their uniforms off daily when they are in their sleep cycle.

I know on DS9 we'd see them sometimes sleeping in their uniforms. I guess that would be when they were scheduled for duty again in just a few hours, and probably due to DS9 being on Bajoran time. I can't remember if we ever see anyone doing the same on the other shows.

Or they were just taking naps after finishing their duty shifts. It may be a common Starfleet practice to remain in uniform even after leaving their posts for the day in case they might be quickly recalled either for an emergency or a sudden new development in an ongoing project they're involved in.

Am I the only one who thought Spock was so going to get Valeris to "take her uniform off" in this scene?

I mean the first time you watched it? The candle light, the herbal tea, staring into each others eyes as they drank, come on.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Herbal tea? Is that what that was?

SPOCK'S QUARTERS

"In contrast with his Spartan personality, the room is a voluptuous incense-laden lair, filled with curtains and smoke. Spock lights a votive candle; surveys her. He is out of uniform."

I couldn't help thinking "she's been here before." Either the painting was new, or she didn't previously have time to look at it.

I can't remember if we ever see anyone doing the same on the other shows.

In VOY "Flashback", Tuvok "remembers" sleeping in his uniform during an alert in enemy territory. Odds are, though, that his memories are scrambled in this respect, just like they are in a dozen other details.

I don't think we have ever seen "official Starfleet pajamas"; each character has had different nightwear. When did we see our DS9 heroes sleeping in their uniforms? (Bashir apparently was abducted in his uniform at night, but whether he was in bed is debatable...)

I seem to remember a few scenes where Bashir or someone went to bed in their uniform, but I think it was in the context of being a rest. I can't remember any specific scenes though.

Such as Valentine dying when he didn't and thinking the time between Praxis going boom and Kirk and McCoy getting arrested was shorter than it really was :)

Well, the most blatant thing about the disease addling Tuvok's brain was that it made people see deaths that hadn't happened for real...

I'm suddenly reminded of a DS9 example I did used to remember: "Move Along Home", where several of our heroes are abducted in their sleep, and end up wearing their uniforms. It's just that the episode explicitly shows Sisko first wearing his PJs, and then materializing in the Wadi maze in his uniform - suggesting Bashir and Dax also wore something (or nothing) appropriate for the time of night before getting clad by the Wadi.

...rather than her normal uniform... just a nice blue sweater.

Hmmm.

That sweater thing seems to run in the family.

I like this thread, so I'm posting another picture.

She was seen in her quarters more than once. She always seemed to be wearing the same ensemble.

the crews of all 5 Trek shows seem to (99% of the time) never wear anything except their uniforms. Most importantly, even in their off hours.

mainly i think it's because the captains frown on nude bridge members...
