There were some really good ideas in it, like Shinzon being Picard's younger clone.
Out of all the ideas in the film, that was actually the worst : /

I don't know....I actually liked the idea of them being clones because of the fact they are mirror images of each other without having to have one come from the mirror universe. I liked the scene where Picard and Shinzon are having a nice little chat aboard the Scimitar. If they could have refined the script to make it be a lot less like Wrath of Khan, it might have been better.

Oh, and this was mentioned in a video review linked somewhere in this forum, but the fact that phasers and photon torpedos seemed to do barely any damage during the big space battle was kind of lame. It would have been much more effective to see some ships, including the Enterprise, take some damage, not just have direct hits glancing off deflector shields. It played out more like a Video Game skirmish to me and a lot less like a movie battle scene.

I think Nem is pretty bad, but it's entertaining on some levels.

I think Insurrection was the worst, actually. Better to be bad than booooorring.

Do we really want Denise Crosby in a major motion picture? Would that have sold more tickets?

If the movie was good and worth watching, yes. After all, they put in Marina Sirtis into the movie so Denise wouldn't have been that bad. I still think her character Sela holds more presence than Shinzon.

My opinion is that it was too dark for me. I like Star Trek to have a little more of a positive theme. I thought Shinzon was a weak villain and the actor was a bad choice. They should have had someone with a strong screen presences.

Having said that I do enjoy the movie and I do not dislike it. I like every Trek movie to some degree or another, Nemesis is just not my favorite.

And horribly explained to boot. At the time Shinzon was supposedly created, the Romulans had no contact with the Federation. And even if they did on some unknown, covert level prior to "The Neutral Zone"/late 2364, where was the explanation for using Picard's DNA? After the Stargazer incident Picard didn't command another starship for another eight years or so. He wasn't an admiral. And he seemed to be lying low waiting for his next juicy career opportunity.
