Why didn’t Spock just stun both kirks In whom god’s destroy

The early script (the one Blish got) had GARTH suggesting that he shoot both of them, but KIRK ordering Spock to shoot to kill, because it was the only way to assure the safety of the Enterprise.

Which was "Doc Smith ludicrous." "Salt Vampire ludicrous."

Spock would probably say "I apologize captain, but given the unique circumstances of this"... I still prefer Spock's line about waiting it out because Garth could only sustain his altered form for only so long, anyhow. With all of the tantrums expending that much more energy... I do need to rewatch the episode, but zapping both would rob the tension of the scene and require a different set of circumstances to end the story with Plus, Kirk saying "Shoot us both" does nail it:\

The Man the myth the legend said:
KIRK: (on floor) He's right, Spock. You must shoot, but shoot both of us, it's the only way to ensure the safety of the Enterprise!

Definitely irons out the wrinkles.

Yeah that’s true

yeah I guess it does make sense for the tension of the scene

Does that mean the writers originally were going with the idea that Garth could maintain his form even when stunned and therefore stunning both would not work?

Why? Because it was a poorly written scene, supervised and emended, if at all, by overloaded and under-talented hacks.

Thank the stars for the stars: Ihnat and Craig added a little something to this 3rd season POS.

Don't mince words, Esteban. What do you really think?

You got me. Esteban is right; the scene was poorly written. Although not as poorly written as in the draft Blish worked from. Perhaps there's a reason why Lee Erwin didn't write any other ST scripts. Maybe he was just a poor fit.

Yeah it wasn’t the best episode but I didn’t mind it
