Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

I was wondering boys n gals, why did some people choose there particular names for BBS? are they online alias you use in general or is your name something related to a particular show...Or are you boring enough to use your real name ;).

My first name on BBS was NX01_Mark and that was simply because when I joined in 2003, the ST show on at the time was Enterprise and I was boring enough to tack my real forename on at the end.

I then changed my name to Jax 2 or 3 years ago (I forget) and that was because my online alias these days is Jax or a variation of it (Jaxx, Carnor Jax, Carnor Jaxx). I got that name when I joined a Gaming clan (Imperial Clones) for the PC game "Star Wars Battlefront" and I couldn't think of a name so my friend got one from the expanded Universe "Carnor Jax" who was a Royal/Imperial Guard for Palpatine (Dudes in Red). He told me Karnor Jaxx, which was the wrong spelling but now I go with Jax unless its taken.

Anyway thats my name and the boring history behind it, now for you lot ? :mallory:

Re: Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

No offence, but we just had a thread on this. It's probably on the second page now.

Re: Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

Mostly, it was just a recycled username that I'd already used on other forums.

Re: Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

Cause its my name

Years ago, I use to do the whole alias thing, was fun, but I'm into so much stuff it is hard to pick a theme, so I just started using my real name about 10 years ago on message boards, and just stick with that, I mean why not.

One of my favorite bands is the Alan Parsons Project. Alan has a friend named Lee Abrams who provided spoken word vocal samples to a few of the Project's songs - for example, the beginning of "Let's Talk About Me" was all Abrams speaking.

On any album where this occurred, the liner notes would credit Abrams thus: "Oral rendition: Mr. Laser Beam". (Laser Beam being an anagram of Lee Abrams)

I believe it predates the current halloween names, at least most of the replies in that thread. So I'll say it's okay. But of course, I'll leave it to the Mods since I'm not one :bolian:

I'm normally Finn, the name of my dog, who happens to be a beagle, hence the halloween name, WereBeagle:bolian:

Re: Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

because all the other good ST villain names were taken. been thinking about changing my name actually.

Re: Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

Sakrysta - my college Trek Betazoid alter-ego. Morphed from the word "sacristan" - a character in the opera Tosca, which I had just seen prior to choosing a name.

Every time this thread comes up I tell myself to type out the whole long story and save it in a text file somewhere so I can copy/paste next time. Somehow I never bother.

Re: Why Did You Choose Your BBS Name?

From the Rush song The Body Electric.

It sounded kinda sci-fi, I guess.

Oh god, I remember that. No offense, but I hated emacs. I am sure you are an upstanding individual, though.

Big Daddy was a nickname of mine 4-5 years ago. It was a joke between friends and classmates because I HATED children (and now I just hate parents), so they called me daddy. It was before the video game character and I didn't know about the wrestler. It evolved from Big Daddy as a southern dad, big daddy as I was 175 pounds and in really great shape, so it was a muscle thing, and from Sugar Daddy because I like younger guys, , however I hate sugar daddies too.

Now that I think about it, I probably should change it.
