Why Burnham is named Michael.

Okay, guys, get this: George Michael. His birth first name is Γεώργιος, which in Latin characters is spelled Georgios - one letter off from Georgiou. And the timing is about right for the names to be in honor of his passing?

Confirmed: Burnham is going to serve under captain Georges Oscar Bluth next.

Maybe because the Vulcans named her and they have a hard time distinguishing between human males and females.
Pretty sure it's the same as the differences between Vulcan males and females.

My first instinct was she was named by Vulcans and so they couldn't really distinguish male or female names for humans but they had heard the name Michael and just went with it.
However having seen the first two epissed, I suspect she as indeed named by humans. In which case, my guess is its a hint at gender neutrality in the future or something like that.
