I am sure this gets asked dozens of times...

Whom would you serve under??? Who's crew would you want to be a part of???

1. James T. Kirk (TOS)
2. Jean-Luc Picard (TNG)
3. Benjamin Sisko (DS9)
4. Kathryn Janeway (VOY)
5. Jonathan Archer (ENT)
6. Other (Please List)

And why. ;)

For me it is a toss up between Picard & Janeway. I think Picard is wise and has himself a great crew...Data, Geordie & Riker isn't half bad. Janeway also has a great crew but being stranded in the DQ might be a bit...then again I would eventually serve along side Seven Of Nine. Janeway it is! :p

Benjamin Sisko would be my first choice. He served somewhere with a proper bar.

It would be exciting to be on the NX-01, but the lack of technological sophistication of that ship compared to the TNG era would be a downside for me, which also applies to the NCC-1701. I want replicators and holodecks and all the late 24th goodies.

I didn't like most of the crew of Voyager so seven years with them doesn't appeal to me.

Finally the NCC-1701-D/E, not a big fan of most of the TNG crew either. Though it would be more to do with serving on DS9 that pulls me away from these ships.

Other, a timeship would be fascinating...but I'd probably mess up the timeline so much that I'd end up getting kicked off the ship.

I've gotta go with The Sisko. Not only is he my favourite commanding officer, but I'm also not really the "trek into unknown danger" type -- I'd be much more at home on a station than a starship. All the other commands have huge disadvantages:

  • Kirk: It is worryingly likely that I will die.
  • Picard: Too by-the-book, and everyone's a little too nice. Plus, the beige. So. Much. Beige.
  • Janeway: Yeah, seven years in the Delta Quadrant isn't too appealling.
  • Archer: Ditto one year in the Expanse. And again, I'm really not much of a pioneer.

Picard. He's caring, but also a badass, so you know when shit goes down, you're safe. Plus the Enterprise D/E would have enough holodecks for me to totally get holo-addiction in my free time.

Kirk's no good for me, because I'd be wearing a red shirt, and I don't want to serve on the universe's most flammable ship.
Sisko's no good for me, because his ship is a flying toaster.
Janeway's no good for me, because I don't want to spend 7 years away from home having my organs stolen and being assimilated.
Archer's no good for me, because he's a dope, and he doesn't have real food replicators.

Based solely on the character of the captains, I would select Captain Picard. If you follow him, you know you'll be as safe as he can possible keep his crew, and obey all the rules he is obligated to follow. No court-martials in sight. Not that Sisko, Janeway, or Archer went around breaking rules, but Picard would let an opportunity be lost if he thought he could break a rule by meeting some new species or something. Kirk just was a little to uncontrollable and you never would know what he would drag his crew into.

Another Sisko vote here. I like that he's prepared to throw protocol out the window when need be and he strikes me as the most approachable and caring captain, though Janeway comes a close second in this category.

Sisko. He seems like the most capable military commander, one capable of making the hard decisions that are both necessary for his own people and for the Federation.

Archer was inexperienced. Kirk was reckless. Picard was too politically-correct and threw away lives for the sake of ideals without even blinking (Boraalan, anyone?). Janeway took expediency and ruthlessness TOO far.

Sisko is the perfect "in-between" of all of those, and I think the most capable commanding officer. He is the only one I would be comfortable serving in battle with.

Sisko, most def. For all reasons mentioned above.

Janeway would be my last choice because I do not want to be stranded thousands of lightyears away from home. And after watching SFDebris Voyager reviews, she doesn't seem like the best captain either... lol

Two words, Ensign Ricky.

Actually, Cowboy Diplomacy.

Kirk is my first choice to send out on a mission. If I have to serve with one, equally Picard or Sisko would be my choices as they are likely to get you back in one piece.

^ I like the almost piratical nature of the Klingons, which would make serving on their ships fun, all that drinking, singing and rough housing...reminds me of my college days. But I'm a soft pampered person and I'd miss a nice mattress to sleep on and I too particular about my food to handle eating Klingon cuisine, mainly because I'm squemish about eating stuff that's still alive. No Bear Grylls am I.

I like dancing shrimps! It's a kindda salad that the Thais use live, very small, freshwater shrimps and dress them up! Mmmm! It kindda dance in your mouth as you chew and swallow it. I don't mine trying Gag!

Although Kirk and his crew seem like a lot of fun to be around and the idea of serving with Spock is very appealing, it will always be Picard for me. He's the most experienced of them all, the most reliable and the wisest. He's also got the best ship. As much as I have grown to love the iconic NCC-1701, I would still prefer to be on the D. I love the whole luxury cruiser thing they've got going on there.

I picked Janeway. But that was before I realized you had to accept the scenario along with the captain. I pick Janeway after she gets back home.

Based solely on the character of the captains, I would select Captain Picard. If you follow him, you know you'll be as safe as he can possibly keep his crew, and obey all the rules he is obligated to follow... Picard would let an opportunity be lost if he thought he could break a rule by meeting some new species or something.

I don't know, from what I remember of Picard, he'd LET YOU DIE before he'd break a rule.

1st - Sisko (seriously bad-ass)
2nd - Rachel Garrett (a good fighting spirit, but dedicated to her crew)
3rd - Picard (though would have to say, "just admit it Johnny-Boy, your British")
4th - Rixx (he seemed interesting)
5th - Janeway (maybe if she stayed in the Alpha Quadrant she wouldn't have gone so far off the handle)

Kirk would be pretty low on the list and Archer is nowhere near it. If I had served on the NX-01, I would have reported his serious incompetence and got him kicked off midway through S1.
