1. Beverly.
As someone said earlier, she's the least interesting character dramatically, but she is the most "doctorish" figure of them all, and, if on-screen results are to be believed, probably the most competent.
Oh, and the cutest by far.
And she was very strong on ethics/deontology.
2. The EMH.
His erratic behaviour and arrogance would weird me out. And irritate me. I get very irritable when ill.
Then again, he does have a cyclopean database of treatments in his memory banks, that's a huge plus.
Then again, his memory banks could be erased or get mixed-up or any of the stuff that has happened to him during the series.
As a character, he was single-handedly carrying Voyager early on, but had become a Mary Sue by S7.
3. Bashir.
Decent success rate (but lesser than Beverly's), decent bedside manner (but not as good as Beverly's), nice enough guy.
As a character, pretty bland.
4. Phlox.
He's the most interesting character of the 5, but some of his methods are medieval even by our 21st century standards.
Unsurprinsingly, his success rate is the second-worst as a result.
And keeping a menagerie in sickbay? He's never heard the word "sterile", has he?
5. McCoy. "She's dead, Jim!" Thanks, but no thanks.
Agreed. And no Phlox with his damn leeches.
LEECHES? In the 22nd century?? What the hell were they thinking??
Leeches are still used in 21st century earth.
And not in some remote tribe, either: some German doctors use leeches to treat osteoarthritis (very nasty form of arthritis); they published studies reporting better results than with conventional treatment.
The results have so far not been duplicated by independent groups.
That said, I wouldn't want leeches either.
