So you are saying people will treat a captain the same way they will treat an ensign?

Hogwash.
No that's not what I am saying.

And yeah you're right, your strawman is definitely hogwash.

"Privilege" (in the army) usually means getting more things, larger quarters, more comfortable beds, better vacation spots, better meals etc...

That's the kind of thing that I am not sure a Captain is getting in Starfleet. Does Janeway eat better food than a simple crewman on Voyager?

In TNG's "Lower Decks", LaVelle wants a promotion so he doesn't have to share quarters with Taurik. Ensigns and Crewmen share quarters on a ship, while Lt. (jg) and up get their own. Bigger quarters sounds like a privilege to me.

Again guys this is chief engineer I started a new thread for you guys could continue conversation over there

Also rank does have meaning when in day of honor in voyager when Paris says to Torres “you can’t order me out because I out rank you.” That is true Paris did out rank her then.
Actually, no he doesn't. They both hold the same rank, Lieutenant JG, which is exactly what B'Elanna says when he uses that line. He claims seniority, which yes, among those who hold the same rank, the one with seniority takes precedence. But again, that's meaningless in this situation since they were both granted their ranks at the same time.

There were so many chief engineers. Who is the best when it comes to: Saving ships, friendliness around staff, tech knowledge.
Scotty for me and I personally will NOT ACCEPT that lame retroactive characterization of him in TNG "Relics" where he goes off on a rant claiming to never tell the Captain the truth about a technical situation IS NOT THE CHARACTER OF Montgomery Scott! That sorry, retcon was made just to make Geordi look better and make Scotty pathetic. The Scotty I remember told the truth and didn't require to trivialize a life and death situation to keep that bullsh*t nickname "Miracle Worker", from TOS movies, relevant. Ronald D. Moore, a self proclaimed TOS fan should've been ashamed of himself, but there's nothing which surprises me with his backhanded treatments on another TOS character like Kirk.

A close second Geordi; who didn't love Geordi??? What a very kind, gentle man.

O'Brien, to me, felt like a Scotty wannabe, and B'Elanna, as much as I appreciated Roxann Dawson's brilliant acting before shacking up with the Riker wannabe Tom Paris, I felt her engineering work was trivialized by the absurdity of the constant week to week battles including the awful plots on Voyager. I just couldn't get invested in the threat or the dangers on that series. Trip's ventures I felt should've appeared pioneering, you know an engine room that shouldn't have made Scotty jealous but that ENT engine room looked more advanced than TOS engines. So does the work done on Prime Universe Disco! Because of this lack of respecting the hard work done on TOS Universe, those bums (Stamets/Trip) are disqualified!

Not true Paris is Lieutenant Junior grade but Torres is just a provisional lieutenant junior grade

See you in the fact that O’Brien to fix fleet of ships I want to call my want to be and also trip old the enterprise see you in the fact that O’Brien to fix fleet of ships disqualifies him of being a Wanabee. If anything people want to be him. Also the fact that trip held the enterprise together during of all of captain archer‘s adventures I say that disqualifies him of being a bum.

Janeway had her own dining room (before Neelix converted it). That's a privilege.

Yes but contrary to Archer she didn't have her personal cook. Neelix can't really be called a cook because if you do that then you have to come up with another word for the people we call cooks.

Which was silly, The Maquis should have just been given proper ranks. After all, Janeway was trying to send a message that they are all one crew regardless of if they were Starfleet or Maquis. Having the Maquis wear a different kind of rank insignia on their collar kind of ruins that message. Or if the Maquis had to have provisional ranks, then Tom Paris should have also. After all, he was in prison for joining the Maquis.

It's easier to undo the Gordian Knot than resolve all the contradictions in Voyager.

Paris still was in overall command of her, if it came down to it, since he was a command level Bridge officer. And he did have seniority.

Until he was demoted. That means at least losing seniority in rank. It's incomprehensible that he was then promoted back to his rank before Kim, insanely so.

When you're demoted as a punishment it should then be even harder to get your rank back than it was the first time AND TOM WAS ALREADY A CRIMINAL.

Another one of VOY's missed opportunities when Paris was Demoted, they should have promoted Kim, as it had the potential to change the character dynamic between the two of them and might have led to something they could have used in stories.
