Nothing will excite general audiences like "a film by Jonathan Frakes"!
If they go that route, they may cut the budget to $40 million, dust off the Captain Worf script and do it as a Direct-to-DVD release. Then bury Star Trek for twenty years or so because no one is going to give a shit about it after that.
Shane Black would also be a good choice, although it'd be weird seeing a Christmas-themed Star Trek movie, since a few of his movies are set around Christmas (Lethal Weapon, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang)
Tarantino is a Trek fan![]()
I'd prefer Brad Bird or Edgar Wright.
I'm hearing something about Frakes actually being considered... I actually wouldn't be against that. Considering all the directors who worked on the films and TV, Frakes is probably as good as it gets, so I'd welcome him. Provided he's given a solid script.
Frankly, I think it's more important that a film has a strong script than it does a "visionary".
Sometimes the best director can fail badly at the box office because of the script, I mean a director can only do so much with the written page. Now that Frakes has formally announced he wants it bad, I'd support him - he definitely has the experience in film and tv director chairs.
Directing is directing. Just because he hasn't done a theatrical film in awhile doesn't make him less qualified than Robert Orci.
