Michael Bay (Grossed more than $5B) bankable, decent <wince> storyteller and Nimoy is his Cousin-in-Law! True Fact!

or, Rolland Emmerich (Grossed more than $3B) bankable, decent <wince>storyteller and Big Advocate of LGBT

or, Two Utter Wild Cards:

Will Smith
Arnold Schwarzenegger

Will could double for the Computer Voice on the Enterprise, with his Cool Urban Hipness
Arnie could do the bad guy Computer Voice..

Or not

Michael Bay, when directing from a script NOT written by Ehren Kruger (who wrote Revenge of the Fallen [Kurtzman and Orci did the story, NOT the screenplay], Dark of the Moon, Age of Extinction) actually makes pretty enjoyable movies. I thoroughly enjoyed (and still do) The Rock, Armageddon, and Bad Boys. Pain and Gain was good too, once I realized the advertising was misleading (it was more a drama than comedy).

Michael Bay would be a decent director for Star Trek as long as someone who is not Ehren Kruger wrote the script, the cameraman held the damn camera steady, and they didn't quick cut the shit out of it.

How about Woody Allen? We'll have a much, much older male character opposite a much, much younger female character. And, we'll traverse relationship woes while the Enterprise must investigate a 'strange new world' and help out a 'new civilization.'

(Okay, I think the thread is just random name dropping at this point...lol)

J.J. Abrams, if he could come back, since I love what he's done so far, but yeah, Brad Bird would be awesome, too. It would be like the first ten minutes of ST09, but for the entire movie.

Brad Bird, or how about someone from Bollywood? Seriously, it's extremely technical work that also balances plenty of emotion in there and juggles several tones at once.

Well, since Orci said yesterday that it will be finished on time to meet the original release date, they probably are about to contract someone.

No luv for Ken Branagh? maybe Jack Ryan has something to do with that? I bet if it had been a Bourne sized hit not only would there be a Ryan sequel on the horizon hed be probably be a cert for Trek3

I voted Rupert Wyatt, I absolutely loved Rise of The Planet of the Apes more than anything else the others have been linked to.

I think he'd be a good choice, too.

My Top 3 dream choices would be:
Joss Whedon
J. Michael Strazinski
James Cameron

If they ever brought Star Trek back to TV, I'd like to see it Jonathan Glassner & Brad Wright involved.

Think it's safe to consider Frakes "not in the running in any way."

stranger things have happened (Shane Black - IM3, JJ doing Trek..then Wars etc)

Neither of those examples seemed nearly as unlikely beforehand than the idea of Frakes being asked to direct the next Trek film. Shatner is as likely as Frakes to be asked (and no, I don't think he should be asked either).
