Who never guest starred on TOS that should have?

Robert Duvall. I mean Duvall did both "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Time Tunnel", so why not Star Trek? If the original version of "City on the Edge of Forever" had been done, he would have been the ideal choice to play Beckwith.

Oooh, I like this idea! :techman:

And practically anyone else to play the Klingon in "Friday's Child."

:guffaw:HA! Yeah, poor Kras never gets any love.

Suddenly I'm seeing a phaser shot to the groin...

Might've been cool to see Adam West, Alan Napier (Alfred), or Neil Hamilton (Commissioner Gordon) in a dramatic role. Hey, we did get Catwoman (two of them) and Batgirl in ST. Besides, it's a shame that the only time those two '60s icons, Shatner and West, appeared together was in a rarely-seen Alexander the Great pilot.

And of course Lloyd Bridges would've been great as a starship captain.

He did eventually get to play one, on "Battlestar Galactica".

The legendary Commander Cain of the Battlestar Pegasus. He was definately a Galactic Patton in the classic two-part episode. My kind of leader.

As to who could have guest-starred on TOS, here is my list of possible actors.

Roy Thinnes, James Olson, Russell Johnson, Nehemiah Persoff, Edward Mulhare, Donald Harron, Anthony James, and Alf Kjellin.

Russell Johnson would be a great Elias Sandoval. Lloyd Bridges as Commodore Wesley. Burgess Meredith as Richard Daystrom. Ben Gazarra as a Klingon captain.

My nominees would be Robert Culp or Roddy McDowall. I could easily see Culp as a Starfleet Captain and McDowall as a villain or an exotic alien.

I've often wondered what "Star Trek" would've been like had Roddenberry cast Robert Culp as Captain Robert M. April with Martin Landu as Mr. Spock and Landu's then-wife Barbara Bain as Number One instead of the future Mrs. Roddenberry.

Love suggestions of Barbara Bain and Martin Landau, and would have liked to see Robert Vaughn.

Am I the only one not impressed by Joan Collins in City...? I know it's iconic, but perhaps coming from later generation she just feels...wrong.

When I watched original WWW on youtube, I thought actor who played Artemus Gordon could easily have played Bones' brother.

Other than that, would have liked to see someone classic Hollywood (though unlikely); Kim Novak or Patricia Neal...

I always thought Joan Collins was a little bit too "Dynasty" to play the role of Edith Keeler credibly.

You know who would have made a fantastic Edith Keeler? Lois Nettleton.

. . . Michael Rennie (who also did the Invaders) Would have made a great alien..(Duh!)
Rennie could easily have stepped into Robert Lansing's shoes as Gary Seven in "Assignment: Earth." As someone pointed out on a more recent thread, G.R.'s backdoor pilot was essentially Klaatu: The Series.

That's like not being able to accept Leslie Nielsen as a serious spaceship commander in Forbidden Planet because he was the funny guy in Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies. Joan Collins played many "good girls" before the role of Alexis on Dynasty solidified her "diamond-studded bitch" image.

I didn't mean to denigrate Ms. Collins' skills as an actress, and she unquestionably turns in a fine performance in "City". It was that, good girl or bad girl, she had a sheen of aristocracity that didn't quite jibe with the character of Edith Keeler. The slight English accent doesn't help, either.

I appreciate may not have all necessary knowledge here but will give it a go: as a fan of old Hollywood seen a lot of Nielsen & Collins film performances. The reason I think Nielsen worked in both FP and Airplane is that he was competent actor and approached both SF and comedy seriously, so can accept him in both. Collins, in my opinion, was never a great actress but in Hollywood was clearly a 'bad/sexy/naughty girl' starlet rather than girl-next-door. So the seeds of her Alexis-image was sown long time before Dynasty. That's why I don't think she really works. But this could just be a Brit thing...:)

Michael Rennie as G7? Interesting and can see, but for TV series would still prefer to go with Robert Lansing.

Roy Thinnes,

Thinnes was one of the top candidates for the role of Jean-Luc Picard. (Cue for someone with photoshop abilities).
