Who never guest starred on TOS that should have?

Robert Duvall. I mean Duvall did both "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" and "Time Tunnel", so why not Star Trek? If the original version of "City on the Edge of Forever" had been done, he would have been the ideal choice to play Beckwith.

Martin Landau.
Carroll O'Connor.
Elizabeth Montgomery
Barbara Stanwyck (talk about class)
Greg Morris
Clint Eastwood
Agnes Moorehead
Edmund Gwynn
Vince Edwards
Eartha Kitt
Henry Morgan
Ben Gazzarra
Robert McCallum

And practically anyone else to play the Klingon in "Friday's Child."

Martin Landau.
He was G.R.’s first choice to play Spock, you know.

Edmund Gwynn
Edmund Gwenn would have been good as Samuel T. Cogley in “Court Martial” -- although I can also see Burgess Meredith in that role.

Robert McCallum
There’s a former U.S. ambassador to Australia by that name. I assume you mean David McCallum?

^^ Oops! My bad. I must have mixed his name with Robert Vaughan. You're right, I mean David McCallum.

Sure, some of the Trek guests became renowned actors, but most were realatively less well known at the time. It seems to me that they didn't want anybody who'd be instantly recognizable and whose personality would rule out a "character" performance. I mean, who's Bob Hope going to play besides himself?

"Wow, this Cestus II is wild place, isn't it? I mean the Gorn have really messed up the golf course with all that mortar fire, talk about a hole in one!" - Bob Hope on Star Trek

Might seem like an odd pick but, Lucille Ball. Had occasion recently to see some of her early work in Hollywood and she was a descent dramatic actress (didn't always do comedy).

If she had wanted to be on Star Trek, Roddenberry could have hardly said no, she owned the damned studio.

:)

"Now, Ensign Ricardo . . . remember that you are a key player in the photon torpedo assembly line during combat. Have you any questions?"

Imagine Desi as Khan! "Marla, you've got some 'splaining to do!"
And Marla's response: "Waaaaaaaahhhh!" :wah:

Apparently Bonanza was filmed close by... I can just see a wild and crazy crossover! :p (seriously, either Lorne Greene or Pernell Roberts would have been great guest stars; not sure what David Canary was doing in the '60s, but I loved him in the later Bonanza episodes!)

Vaughn Armstrong (my favorite actor of all time) was a teenager in TOS' day. Maybe he could have played a cadet.

How about Sam Waterston? Could have played a law clerk for Samuel Cogley. :)

I'm kind of surprised that Fritz Weaver never showed up on the show . . . although he eventually turned up on DS9.

In addition to Samuel Cogley, another role I think Burgess Meredith could have done well in was Ambassador Petri in "Elaan of Troyius."

If Susan Oliver hadn’t gotten the part, I can so see Yvette Mimieux as Vina in “The Cage.”

Hmmm . . . “Vina, meet Weena. Weena, meet Vina.”

Buddy Ebsen and Bill Bixby would have been great to see in Star Trek. And of course Lloyd Bridges would've been great as a starship captain. Too bad he turned Gene Roddenberry down. He at least could have guest starred.

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking Klingon bloodwine."

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing gagh."
