Who never guest starred on TOS that should have?

JonnyQuest037

Vice Admiral
Admiral
What stars from the mid 60s would you have liked to see guest star on TOS who never did? And what would you have lived to see them play? For the purposes of this thread, it should be someone who was at least fairly well-known in the mid 60s who conceivably would've been available for a TOS guest spot.

My nominees would be Robert Culp or Roddy McDowall. I could easily see Culp as a Starfleet Captain and McDowall as a villain or an exotic alien.

Apparently, they considered approaching McDowall for "The Squire of Gothos," but ended up going with William Campbell instead . . . .

But can you imagine Burgess Meredith or Vincent Price on STAR TREK?

Wow, I liked Campbell in the part, but I'd like to look in on the alternate universe where they went with McDowall instead. The Squire would've been great part for him. I'd also like to see if John Barrymore could've improved the mess that was "The Alernative Factor."

But can you imagine Burgess Meredith or Vincent Price on STAR TREK?

The mind boggles. I could easily see Burgess Meredith as a scientist aiding the Enterprise crew. Price could've been terrific on "Catspaw."

Another nominee that just sprang to mind... Jonathan Harris from Lost in Space could've been a fun guest star. Not as Dr. Smith, though!

Anthony Zerbe is always the first one that comes to my mind; he would've made a great Lord Garth (no disrespect to Steve Ihnat, whom I adore) or some other similarly insane villain.

Ross Martin, Alan Hale Jr. (as a a comical villain), Robert Stack, Burgess Meredith, Barbara Feldon.

Diana Rigg . . . in an amazing William Theiss costume, of course!

And here's a wild idea. How about Boris Karloff, who was still doing the occasional tv spot back then?

Might seem like an odd pick but, Lucille Ball. Had occasion recently to see some of her early work in Hollywood and she was a descent dramatic actress (didn't always do comedy).

If she had wanted to be on Star Trek, Roddenberry could have hardly said no, she owned the damned studio.

:)

Peter Graves would have worked well as a high ranking officer, such as a commodore or admiral.

Danny Glover would have made a great starship captain.

Imagine Desi as Khan! "Marla, you've got some 'splaining to do!"

Then again, we should probably be thankful that we didn't get Zsa Zsa Gabor as the Queen of Outer Space . . . .

Oh, if only . . . !

Not such a wild idea, actually. “Trouble With Tribbles” author David Gerrold had another take on the character of Cyrano Jones. Rather than being basically a Harry Mudd clone, Jones could have been written as a gentle, doddering old eccentric who was innocently unaware of how much damage his little furry creatures were capable of causing. Gerrold said it would have been a perfect role for Boris Karloff.

Peter Graves would have worked well as a high ranking officer, such as a commodore or admiral.

“You ever been on the bridge of a starship before, Joey?”

“No sir, I've never been on a starship before.”

“You ever seen a grown man naked?”

Hey, maybe a young Jack Nicholson as Lt. Somebody? He was doing small parts in Corman movies back then . . . . .

How about Sonny and Cher in a bit of third-season stunt casting? Cher could have played an exotic alien babe. Sonny could have played a dork.
