Who Mourns for the Gorn?

(although major kudos to Valeris/Vixen for the range of puns she's* achieved!)

*(Oh how I wish that were the case ;) :( )

^Memory Beta is horribly under-updated, though.

There's far, far more information that's missing from Memory Beta than has been incorporated.

Well, that's why I appreciate all you good people here! For someone like myself, my only resources for this kind of info are Memory Beta and this place. I know no matter how hard I work, I just can't become as knowledgeable as some people.

Also, is there a reason more people don't update a site like Memory Beta?

I do as often as I can, which admitedly isn't as much as I used to. (Curse the real world, anyway! :censored:) 8of5 is an admin there and Sci used to contribute a lot as well. Any number of others here (JD and Therin for example) have as well (Feel free to shout yourselves out, people.)

One problem that MB has that Memory Alpha does not is that we have a smaller pool of potential contributers. A stat that was thrown out here once was that the various tie-in merchandise only reaches about 2%(?) of the television and movie audience. Hence, a lot less people to be passionate enough about it to wikify the stuff.

Also, when you consider that the sheer volume of tie-in material, all of it taking "canon" material and expanding on it in various ways, if "complete", would probably dwarf Memory Alpha, which pretty much limits itself to "canon" characters, events, ships, ect. In comparison MB will probably always seem incomplete.

Not that I'm blind to the place's faults. We have far too many two and three sentence stubs and "skeleton" articles that don't convey any real information. Too much (IMHO, anyway) time and effort is put into minutae (Various RW food items that a character might be eating for lunch, or RW people, places or events that a character might mention or think about that don't otherwise have any other real "Trek" relevance) when we have gaping holes in "James T. Kirk", "Montgomery Scott", "Kathryn Janeway" and any number of others. Not to mention insufficient coverage of SCE, GKN and VAN.

OTOH, we have great articles for "Romulan Star Empire", "Spock", "Worf", "Jean-Luc Picard", "Section 31" and any number of others as well. It's a growing and expanding endevour, that will only get better with time and new contributions. If you feel you have anything to offer, please stop by the place and do so.

Personally, I love the place, warts and all! :D

I can't bring myself to Klingon to telling jokes in this thread.....

(Thank you, I'm here all week, tip your waiters, try the veal.)

Speaking of Memory Beta, I've also contributed bits and pieces to it in evil anonymous fashion due to my being too frapping lazy to get an account. Mostly I've fixed or added things that relate to my own work (e.g., I added the events of "Four Lights" to Picard's entry, and also added the revelations about Christine Vale's past from Remembrance of Things Past Book 1 to her entry).

As it stands right now -- and will likely stand for a while -- MB is not remotely a definitive resource. Which means that if you search for something there and find it, it's very handy, but if you don't find it that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. That makes its usefulness as a reference scattershot, sadly, but with luck, and through the efforts of noble folk like 8of5, Sci, Turtletrekker, JD, et al, it will be that some day.

When I post it's on mostly real world stuff, like covers and blurbs and that kind of stuff, because I have horrible memory skills, and have trouble keeping my facts straight.

I do have one quick question about posting without signing in though. I've done this myself several times on MA/B and other wiki sites, and then when I went to the history it had my IP address up. So I was just wondering if this is something I should be worried about?

"...and that there will (eventually!) be a Gorns sourcebook for them for the Prime Directive RPG"

Darn it! That's my line!

Me so Gorny!

All these jokes better not keep me from sleeping late tomorrow gorning.

(Maybe I'll wake up in time for lunch, when I will have some Gorn on the cob?)
