Who knew Klingons can dance?

I don't care about L'Rell, neither her character, nor that she is the current leader of the Klingon Empire, not that she somehow managed to get that position using a bomb threat(!?).

Mary Chieffo on the other hand might be one of the absolute best things coming out of Discovery so far! Goddamn. She's probably the most effective single-person marketing machine Trek had in a looong time. She's just so into it! I love her for it. :guffaw:

In TNG someone could just take over the empire by killing the current leader (hell someone else could kill them for you in the case of Martok), this doesn't really seem that much different.

Just less bloodshed.

In TNG they had pretty specific rules and traditions for this.

Like in Black Panther, Killmonger was able to overtake Wakanda because his claim was based on tradition. He won in a fair fight, following known rules. Had he just come into the throne room and gunned down T'Challa, they would have whopped his ass immediately, and not given him the keys to the Empire.

The Master well be pleased.

The bomb-inside-Kronos finale was incredibly stupid. The weakest part of season 1 was the finale.

Yes, absolutely. And it soured me on the whole first season arc: Some of the time I was very much entertained. Other times I was pretty disgusted at the show. But had the overall season arc worked, I might have liked overall a little more. As it was, it was super disappointing as a whole.

I think it's intersting to note the differences to the ENT and DS9 season arcs: ENT's finale of S3 was also pretty weak, but the overall story IMO one of the strongest in general. Same for the first Dominion War arc: There were some dud episodes in it as well, but the arc as a whole felt like more than the sum of it's parts (whereas DIS was less than it's individual parts).

The difference is probably that ENT and DS9 both wrapped all their major storylines up before the finale: All the character arcs basically came to their climax, the mysteries were solved, all the players in their position: Everything came down to that one last battle. ENT just showed us this battle. DS9 even had a nice little twist with the prophets. But in both cases, all the plot and character threads were basically already wrapped up, and everything building up to that one, final confrontation on which everything hinges.

DIS on the other hand basically left ALL their character and plot threads open until the very last episode: Georgious story, the war arc, the klingon civil war arc. But the final-to-last episode was basically filler. And then in the final episode, they clearly weren't capable of resolving all their plotlines and having a climax at the same time. That's probably why the bomb felt like such an ass-pull. Because literally everything was made up on the spot to just wrap everything up, without any regard if it fits with the logic of the story, the themes, or basic common sense in general. It was just a baffling lack of planning on the writers part. The conclusion to a story is mostly as important (if not even more) than the main conflict, and they literally postponed it until the last possible second only to show they had no idea the whole time what they actually wanted to do with the main story.

I hope S2 has better planning...
