Who is the worst character in all of Star Trek main cast?

Your mileage may vary. As far as I am concerned, it works out for Spock, Kira, Dukat, Sarek, Ro Laren, K'Ehleyr, Picard, Data (I'd rather describe it as lovable cuteness, but many girls find him hot), Damar, and I would argue, maybe even Jadzia Dax, among others. But then anyone can disagree with both who they consider a good character, and who they find sexy. Quite a few people find Seven an interesting character.

There's a difference between an attractive character and a character designed to boost ratings with their chest. For example, Saavik was an attractive character, but she wasn't really sexy, per se.

I'm not sure why that quote is attributed to me... I never said it. That was DevilEyes. Though I more-or-less agree with the sentiment.

And I personally like Seven. Yes, she was attractive, and the design of her catsuits made things rather obvious, but I never saw her as just a sexy babe designed to boost ratings. Maybe the suits at UPN did, but I actually enjoyed the character, and Ryan's portrayal of her.

I voted for Pulaski. The actress was good, but the character just wasn't handled very well by the powers that be--who obviously realized their mistake, because Crusher returned the next year.

For me, it's got to be Wesley. And I'm sorry to say that, too, because I think the idea was a fairly good one.

That's the problem, really - wasted potential. The idea of having a teenager/very young man as a major character was a perfectly fine one, but it's like the writers had never met any actual teenagers. Why did they have to make him such a little weirdo? And not an interesting little weirdo - that would have been fine (e.g. Nog). No, he was a dull weirdo. I didn't know weird could be so dull. And the thing is, it didn't have to be.

Another problem for me is that Wesley is very poorly acted - I understand Will Wheaton can act, but all I can say is, he never demonstrated this when he was on TNG. He just makes me cringe almost every time he is asked to do more than say, "Aye, captain." There are other TNG characters (as well as characters on the other shows - Neelix comes to mind) that I have problems with but none so consistently as Wesley.

So Wesley "wins."

Can anyone answer that, along the lines of What is a Vulcan or What is a Klingon? They would have been better off just having Ethan play another of the Marquis crew.

You're right, Ethan Phillips doesn't look like a classic "revolutionary", and that might have made for a more interesting character - what made him become part of the Marquis, etc. Way more interesting than the nothing character he was stuck with.

I wonder if Neelix would've been more interesting if Robert Picardo, who auditioned for the role, got the part. Hell, it's too bad they didn't combine the roles of Neelix and the Doctor -- Dr. Neelix, interstellar do-gooder physician -- but then there probably wouldn't have been a Phlox, as both would've been too similar.

As for Harry Kim, if they only had made him a disgruntled Maquis, he would've been more interesting than the goody-two-shoes we got. And in the ep where we see a tougher, future Kim, he seemed more interesting. Or if they had just kept him a Starfleet officer who grows weary of the long voyage home and starts "acting out," that would've been an improvement. Would've loved a scene where he would've said, "Hey, Captain, I deserve a promotion, and I'd be at least a full lieutenant by now if I weren't stuck in this godforsaken quadrant!"

Dunno what it is. Before Voyager and definitely before Enterprise - Vulcans were easily my favorite ST race.

You shouldn't be! The thing is, yes, we know Marina Sirtis isn't the greatest actress in the world, and we can all make fun of the "I sense a great sorrow" moments, but for all her limitations she did make Troi into a warm and lovable character, and I think many TNG fans appreciate her for that.

I gotta go with wesley crusheer on this one... I really didn't like the first 3 years of TNG at all... the cpt. was too wishy-washy and most of the episode plots were pretty bad. The only reason it survived is we all thought it might get better... and it did. The last four years were grand.
