Spoilers Who is the mastermind in Season 3 of Picard?

My new theory after Episode 8. It's the original "biological" species that became the borg. The Borg are a constant amalgamation of all they've assimilated but they were once biological. The "hive" mind was a biological distinctive of the progenitor species.

The "hand-ler head" is a faction that does not want connection with humans and wants vengeance for destroying their "children" (the Borg). What's calling to Jack is a different faction of the same "origin" species that wants purposeful connection and understanding. Thinking the "original" Borg queen not the cybernetic version.

In the end we will have a complete resolution of the Borg arc.

Starting to think the somewhat detached Borg Queen wants Jack to be the Borg King to replace her. No idea why just a theory.

Borg Queen was originally looking for a bridge between the Borg and Humanity in First Contact. I mean her methodology was wacko but that's what she said she wanted. The voice saying "connect them" / "connect us" could be a major clue.

I think this queen may be the original queen pre cybernetics entering the Borg physiology.

The line about a bridge between humanity and the borg is a semi-retcon of why they made Picard into a unique Locutus in BoBW.

Here's my thoughts...

When Hollywood makes a show they want to make it accessible to everyone, not just the old fans. They want to make sure they're able to follow the storyline. So far the only other foe they've mentioned is the Borg. The lines they dropped on how Picard was the biggest baddest Borg and so much so that he was the only Borg with a name and how the real Borg were still "out there". Then there's the changelings removing parts of the parietal lobe of Picard's original body... in Best of Both Worlds that's the part of the brain that was excited in Locutus when Picard was able to make contact with Data while still assimilated. Apparently something that is impossible. Add to that Picard's latent connection to the Borg shown in First Contact by being able to identify the weak spot of the attacking Borg cube. Now.. as to Jack.. he surrenders himself to Vadic on Titan's bridge and then brings out his "grenade" and says "There's really no point in Resisting" what's another way to say that? Resistance is Futile! Vadic calls him a "Jack in the Box" well.. a box is cube shaped yes?

I don't like this guy at all, especially his bit about Troi's line about the Changeling being good at sex. He does understand she was joking... right? He's not that literal-minded, is he?

Apparently he is.

Literally the entire comments section is people calling him out on that.

I think you're right. Since episode one we've had hints of the Borg. Picard's Battle of Wolf 359 playing on Bev's computer. Context dropped when Riker explains to Picard how he wouldn't know about the Hell Bird virus as he was Locutus at the time. I'd be astonished if it's anything but the Borg at this point.

More evidence: Seven pushes her way back onto the bridge and Vadic says, "How fitting you'll be around for this." In what other context could that line make sense?

I'm still convinced that the last two episodes will bring completion / closure of the entirety of the Borg arc.

In the preview, Deanna is FREAKED OUT - like she's seen a ghost. It's either a Borg Queen or the Locutus consciousness.

Vadic's boss sounds pretty male for a Borg queen. And I don't see Patrick getting into Locutus makeup again and furthermore an actor who isn't Patrick is credited with the voice of Vadic's boss. Yes we've been fooled by 'Javid Iqbal' before but there seems to be more evidence the actor who voices Vadic's boss, Garth Kemp, actually exists

I really think it's the progenitors of the Borg - the bio species that they came from - face blob may be one of that species. ‍♂️

Speaking of Progenitors, a possible thought - wonder if it could be the ancient humanoids from The Chase?

It's a super common fan theory that they are connected to the Changelings (due to the somewhat similar makeup and Salome Jens playing as both). Could they be responsible for the Changelings' creation? Could a few of them be hiding in the dark, waiting for something, still able to excerpt some control over them?

And Jean-Luc Picard and Beverley Crusher were the two members of the Enterprise crew present at the playback of the message. What if the message wasn't as innocuous as first thought? What if it changed them somehow? Resulting in Jack?

Perhaps they're pissed that the message was not received in peace. That their children haven't come together in fellowship. They took out the Romulans by causing the Hobus supernova and now they're after the next target, The Federation.

It's a creator God trope that when your children don't turn out as you intend, you wipe the slate clean, and try again.

If it's Borg, they're going to have to go into knots explaining why Jurati's Borg can't appear or help. She's the only friendly Borg they know and she might even be able to just pull the "evil" or whatever away from Jack.

Also, overwhelming, ancient evil darkness was not really the Borg's theme. They pursue perfection in their own twisted way and are ruthless and don't care who they assimilate to achieve it, but in their own misguided way they think they're doing good. As Locutus himself said, "We wish to raise the quality of life, for all species". It's far more likely that any origin of the Borg was a well intended science experiment gone horribly wrong, not an ancient race of evil beings like Sauron from Middle Earth or something.

Making the villain the Borg would be a very, very big tonal change from their past depiction to the ancient mystical evil vibes we've been getting around Jack this season.

Ghost is a good point:
Perhaps Matalas wasn't joking when he recommended Sub Rosa before the show began :D
When Ronin possessed people, their eyes turned green. Other creatures like him could turn eyes red (male/female, or anaphasic 'races')...

Christ, if this season is a direct prequel to Sub Rosa I'll personally send Terry Matalas a year's supply of candles.
