Spoilers Who is Chief of Security Now?

The Wormhole

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
So, last week Kayshon is introduced as the new chief of security, and then this week we learn Shaxs is somehow resurrected, though Kayshon still seems to be around and indeed was on the bridge as part of the senior staff delegation on hand to meet Tom Paris.

So, that raises the obvious question, which one of them is now the chief of security?

Everyone.

I really have no idea. I was so happy to see Shaxs back I forgot about the logistics of where he fits into the crew now.

Depends on the situation, I’d say. Inside the ship versus outside? But TNG era trek rarely asked the distinction.

Tactical is answerable to Security, right?

Yes, I believe so.

As for Shaxs: If he's looking for something to do, perhaps he can become the commander of the Cerritos' Marine detachment*? I definitely see him as a "boots on the ground" type.

*Yes, I believe there are Starfleet Marines, deal with it. :p (ST VI, Colonel West. Need I say more? ;) )

Absorbed into could mean "became the marines".

Same diff.

Starfleet Marines are still Starfleet, after all. Different ranks and uniform color, but no less Starfleet.
Besides, you utter the Black Speech of the Kelvinites.

In this instance, Kelvin is irrelevant.

I mean, the Federation was formed well before the timeline divergence. So if a Kelvin film says the MACOS were absorbed into Starfleet, then logically this must also have happened in the prime timeline as well. Because before 2233, there WAS no difference.
