Which, aside from the collapse of the strength of streaming everywhere, presented zero production issues since Star Trek entered this new age. Which you have yet to acknowledge.

I’ve acknowledged it fine. You’re just choosing to ignore the points I’ve been making.

she doesn’t specifically say she turned down a “show”. Just that what she was offered wasn’t “Legacy”.

So I wonder if it was a Section 31 like TV movie. Which…imo…is the best way to do a Captain Seven spinoff.

The lady knows what fans want. :D

They clearly want a 25th century show/movie and a quick turnover too.

Hmm, apparently another Seven of Nine centered show set after Picard which would not have been Legacy was pitched, though Jeri Ryan declined.
It really does not bode well for Legacy that Paramount are considering other 25th century spin-offs instead.
Kind of a dumb move on her part, career wise. I don't see too many other productions breaking down her door. To turn down a staring role in her own series? I'm sure her agent is thrilled with her.

No, no. Im not a fan of that kind of thinking. It's her life and her choice, just as long as she's happy.

However, it would be good to hear more about the project, since it probably won't happen. It would be interesting to learn who pitched it too.
Clearly it's her choice, I just question if it's a good one for her professional career. In a age where the industry is constricting, and less and less shows are being produced, it just doesn't seem like turning down a staring role is a wise career move. But hey, it's her life. I'm just thinking that might be the only offer she's going to get to play the role, as I have my doubts "Legacy" will ever be more than a pipe dream.

Well, for all we know she put a lot of thought into the project, and decided it wasn't really that useful to her career. The specifics would be useful at this point as we can't be sure what her quote entails.

They may have intended to kill her off for all we know, so it could've a been short-term deal.

We also only have her side of the story, with incredibly vague details. The reality of the situation might be a bit different.

Its actually really hard to find ways to make something feel new, and the danger with ST is you just start renaming familiar things (e.g. "the super warp drive", or the "super whizz torpedoes" that all effectively do the same thing narratively) - but that is where the over-arching "as long as it is written well" mantra comes in.
It could be standard aboard 25th century ships for flesh and blood crews to be supplemented by exocomps. Note-exocomps don't look anything like the Synths that ravaged Utopia Planitia. Indeed, the resemblance is even less than other robots, such as Dot 7.

The presence of exocomps would show a distinct advancement in tech, without making the technology too magical for effective story telling.

It might be that she trusts Matalas with her character more than whoever pitched this alternative Seven series. And this after she was pitched something different for PIC from what actually happened.

Nothing dumb about her decision at all.

We'll see. I'm thinking less and less that Legacy was ever really something that was gonna happen. Her trust in Thy Lord Terry may have just cost her a paying gig AND the continuation of her character. The streaming world is constricting, not expanding.

The last time she had a full-time gig before PIC was in 2011-13, in Body of Proof. She, like the rest of us, kinda needs a steady paycheck. So saying no to a potential show where she would have been the lead sounds like a mistake, no matter how bad she or her agent might have thought it was. It's not like other producers are knocking down her door.

Exactly this.

That she turned it down in spite of the obvious advantages certainly points to the fact that the idea was less than stellar. I don't think she should just take whatever Trek gig turns up regardless of quality if she doesn't want to.

In terms of what next, I went for Legacy but I'd be happy with anything set post-Picard as it seems we're heading for more 24th Century wilderness years in terms of Trek output.
