Many of them are canon, but I bet that plan would have changed if there was more incentive to do so. Movies and shows bring in way more money than novels do.

It will never happen, but at the convention last week I talked to Emily Coutts and said I wanted a series featuring Detmer and Owo and the adventures of the Mirror Universe Enterprise. They don't even have to be the leads, but through Discovery season 5, I was thinking about what they were doing and the possibility that it was much more interesting.

I just want a show with new characters, or characters we know next to nothing about. A Romulan War/BOTF series or a Rachel Garrett series seem like the best opportunities to actually add to the lore of the franchise.

A Birth of the Federation series, set in the immediate aftermath of the Romulan war, would present so many opportunities for rich and interesting characters, with a backdrop begging to be explored.

We'd see the relationships forming between the founding members l of the Federation, which could give way to some interesting political drama.

We could see the xenophobia of the species being cast aside and giving way to cooperation and trust between the races.

Early deep space missions taking our characters to wonderous sights they couldn't imagine and bringing back a real sense of exploring the unknown.

Or we could see a series following Rachel Garrett, set within the "Lost Era." A time we know very little about, but yet we know to be rather consequential.

This series could fill in the blanks about what little we know about the early 24th century, while exploring a character that's virtually unknown.*

*at least until the Section 31 film airs.

The Romulan War with ENT cast seems impossible to me. It's been almost 25 years since Enterprise last aired. Maybe something on a different NX ship?

The could do a show/film with the cast & characters set in the 2180s. Not an Era that has been explored. Archer is supposed to be on the Fed Council, IIRC.

As muct as I love the Enterprise cast, if they were gonna make something in this era, I would want them to do so with an entirely new cast of characters.

25th Century Trek with a fresh ship and crew, no callbacks, no familiar faces. Start fresh where TNG / Picard left off and move forward into the undiscovered country.

This ... except that I wouldn't mind some guest appearances from TNG/DS9/VOY characters. But it doesn't necessarily have to be "Legacy" with Captain 7 of 9 and Jack Crusher ... ideally a new crew, showing how things go on after Picard.

And ideally, it should be more light-hearted, like SNW. A show that does for the TNG era what SNW does for TOS.

Is this an absolute simply by having a character reprise their role from a previous show?
I think the bigger question is why is Matalas the only way forward? What is it that he has said or done with Seven that excites people?

I get that Seven appeals for many reasons but what does Matalas actually offer?

I can very well seeing a Legacy/Seven show (taking away all the variables from the buy-out, of course) where Matalas is too busy to be anything more than a producer as others take the charge. I think the people on the screen are really the bigger overall draw than the people behind. Especially to the general fan who has no idea what a Matalas even is, which I bet is the majority.

Well, sure and I imagine much of the appeal for fans is a lot of interest in Seven. What made me question this to be Matalas specific was this post:

Let Matalas do what he's doing with Seven, otherwise let the franchise lay fallow.
And the interesting proposal that it's Matalas or nothing. So why just Matalas?
