Which series would you want next?

If we presume that Strange New Worlds will be ending in the next few years, which series idea would you personally like to see filmed next?

Legacy - The 25th century Picard spinoff from the likes of Terry Matalas and staring Captain Seven of Nine on the Enterprise-G. Series would be as advertised; a trip down memory lane, revisiting people and places seen throughout the Berman era of Trek.

Stargazer - A Lost Era adventures of a younger Jean-Luc Picard during his first command of the Stargazer.

Rachel Garrett - Presuming audiences fall in love with Kacey Rohl as Rachel Garrett in the upcoming Section 31, similar to Anson Mount as Pike, we could have a series set during the Lost Era either before or during her command of the Enterprise-C.

Romulan War/Birth of the Federation - A series set during or in the aftermath of the war that would show the foundation of the UFP and the early adventures as Humans, Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellarites learn to work together.

Other - Please present your ideas.

Honestly, none of these choices really appeal to me. I voted for Young Picard/Stargazer because I'm a sucker for the Lost Era (and I think Ed Speleers would make a great young JLP, which I'd rather see him doing than continuing on as Jack Crusher), but the problem is that 'canon' and 'continuity' still get in the way.

If I had my choice, I would want a completely rebooted show taking place in its own continuity, with zero callbacks to former shows. You know, like The Orville. Which in my opinion was better than anything CBS/Paramount has produced since 2017.

(Now that I think about it, perhaps I should have voted 'other.' )

25th Century Trek with a fresh ship and crew, no callbacks, no familiar faces. Start fresh where TNG / Picard left off and move forward into the undiscovered country.

Agreed. Not only does it present all the opportunities of an era we know virtually nothing about, but it also gives a chance to flesh out a character that's almost entirely a blank slate.

It's not that much of an issue. The era is such a blank canvas, there's very little continuity they'd have to stick with.

Discovery, Lower Decks and Prodigy were all cancelled because their smaller audience numbers and limited appeal don't justify their current costs.

Strange New Worlds, however, pulls in good viewership. It could potentially go more than 5 years. Especially if Paul Wesley will take over as series lead, if Anson wants out.


Kurtzman already wanted Section 31/lost era to be a streaming series and it was rejected by Paramount as per the trades.

Paramount believed it would weaken the Trek brand. So they settled on a TV movie.


The Romulan War/Birth of the Federation is better suited for a theatrical movie, that could draw in new mass audiences like Star Trek 2009. It's a very grounded concept (alien invasion, nuclear weapons, space war) that doesn't require much knowledge of Trek. Good entry point.

I've always been a fan of Rachel Garrett, so I'd be interested in a series about her. (Really tho, anything but Legacy. I'd even take a Stargazer series over it and I'm not a fan of that concept either.)

- S1/S2 Lela (Romulan War/Birth of the Federation)
- S3/S4 Curzon (early days of the Stargazer, the rise of Garrett, Young Sisko, even immediate events before and after TUC)
- S5/ Ezri (post 2401 Frontier Day takeover)

I thought of putting a SNW/TOS continuation on the list because it'd probably be my # 1 choice, but I figured it might cost too much to keep Peck, Bush, and Gooding on as regulars.

Well, that's above my pay grade. I've no idea what their pay or contract guarantees are. The whole structure is way different than syndication or network. But my answer to the question is still the same.

If they kill SNW without a follow-on series, I'll just drop Trek until and unless* they come up with something more novel and ambitious than mining other parts of the continuity that don't entertain me as much. I didn't really miss Trek on TV between ENT and STD, after all. None of the other poll options do it for me.

*Not holding my breath. Their track record is lame.
