Which races would you have liked to see more of in Star Trek?

Granted, the more times a species is brought up for a sequel, the closer it can get to "small universe syndrome" and/or be diluted to where all intrigue and interest is washed away.

That said, my list might include:

Tholians, Breen, Tarellians from "Haven" so their history and backstory could be fleshed out as what precious little that was told was a lot more compelling than Troi and "Bil" blabbing about the former's arranged marriage as a major plot point - there's at least one story with enough plot meat, or a two-parter if the same disease were introduced and passed through Starfleet (but then given proper closure)... if done right, then the energy fritters from "Lonely Among Us"... ditto for the Bynars... weapons from a species (new or old) that were augmented from what they purchased from "Arsenal of Freedom" (which is the most "small universe" of them all, but where is Minos situated and from what I recall they had no Federation involvement before so it's possible that an adversarial race did exist and reverse-engineer these unstoppable things... but that's creeping into Big Bad Borg territory too...)

Did they make V'Ger?

I mean they could be a candidate
Maybe, but V’Ger just thought organics were an infestation affecting true life forms like itself, and studied them first out of scientific interest; whereas the impression STP gave was that the AI-Cthulhus HATE organics. Don’t recall if that was spelled out, though, and I guess they could always retcon it later as a misinterpretation.

That’s very true, though Trek at least has the excuse that these are political powers within specific borders, so naturally they’ll be repeatedly dealing with each other. (Whereas on, say, Doctor Who, where your characters can go pretty much anywhere in ALL of time or space on a moment’s notice, generally speaking they should never meet anyone twice. But an IP brand needs recognizable elements, so…)

Reactions: Sci
Enterprise was finally slowing me Andorians and Tellarites. Want more early Federation and at war with the Klingons (not how Disco did it, though... more like Axanar, though should be more Cage aesthetic, probably auth more kibble and external weaponry & exposed antenna, sensor dishes, etc

My top list for races I would like to see more of in Star Trek

Tholians
Breen
The machine people that made V'Ger
The sphere beings, surely that one in Discovery wasn't the only one, what would a healthy version of that be like, more could easily be retconned
Iconians

Fleshing out a species that was only given an offhand mention isn't as small-universe, I guess. The way that they're name-dropped casually suggests a level of familiarity that implies enough of an encounter(s) to have formed an opinion, gleaned random knowledge of an obscure custom, etc.

I guess not. Space is big. Really big. So if we keep seeing a species repeatedly then it's safe to conclude either that species has spread out far and wide (like humans have) or our heroes just spend a lot of time in this species galactic neighborhood. Reasonable considering we're talking about a entire space fairing civilization.

On the other hand, if we keep running into the specific alien Jo'Bob, that's small universe. He's only one drop in the ocean, he's not a entire sea.

Seeing Vulcans again and again? Reasonable. Everyone we meet having an intimate connection with Sarek? Small universe.

It's similar with our hero ship constantly being the only ship in the quadrant or closest ship to the situation. Isn't there a fleet for this reason?
