So we all have a specific Trek we think of when he hear the words "Star Trek' which one is it for you? For me it would be a toss up between TNG & DS9 - I've given TNG the point though.

Thoughts?

TOS --> My old Star Trek.
DSC --> My new Star Trek.

TNG --> Someone else's Star Trek, I still like it, but it's someone else's.
DS9 --> Someone else's cool Star Trek.
VOY --> Someone else's Star Trek I've had ups and downs with.
ENT --> Someone else's Star Trek that showed up after I went home.

PIC --> Someone else's Star Trek looking like my Star Trek, which is still cool to see.
LD --> Someone else's Star Trek that's too eager, but its heart is in the right place.

PRO --> My niece's Star Trek.
SNW --> What happens when my old Star Trek meets my new Star Trek.

Kelvin Films --> The guys at the townie bar's Star Trek. I have to be in the mood for it.

It's hard for me to answer this, because to me Star Trek is a place and an alternate history of the future, not any specific series. The more a show or movie is consistent with the Trek setting and sprit, the more 'my Star Trek' it is.

The Star Trek I started with is probably Star Trek 3 followed by The Next Generation, so I suppose they defined that setting and spirit for me. Out of the current series the one that feels the most 'my Star Trek' is Lower Decks.

I guess when someone says Star Trek, I tend to default to TNG. Though I'm not sure how clean-cut it is, when I came to Star Trek all the shows except ENT were already in existence and often shown together (like, for example, an episode of TNG followed by an episode of VOY and such)TNG is just the one I liked best as a child, but I guess all of TNG-VOY would technically be "my" Trek. TOS I saw much less, both because I wasn't that interested in it and didn't like the way the characters talked and behaved, and because, I think, where I grew up the broadcast rights to TOS were owned by a different network than Berman era Trek, so I hardly saw any episodes.
I also remember when I already disliked ENT back then, because I thought the writing was of a lower quality and also didn't like VOY all that much, aside from Seven, because I found the characters too cold and impersonal (If I remember correctly I actually liked Neelix as a kid because he was so much livelier than the rest of the crew), and I often wished that they could have had ENT's special effects in TNG.

These days though I like DS9 and LD best. But I guess the "archetype" that comes into my mind when somebody says Star Trek is still TNG.

DS9 for me, and for a very simple reason.

It's the best representation of what the franchise is all about. A station manned by two different organizations, crewed by people from dozens of worlds, many of whom are outcasts or exiles from their own culture (Odo, Worf, Garak, Quark for a while)... all working together and learning together. I can even point to a scene that says this loud and clear.

At the end of "BODY PARTS", Quark is talking with Rom in his empty bar: all his possessions were taken by the FCA. Suddenly, Bashir comes in with alcohol to help him get back on his feet. Then Dax with glasses. Right after that, Sisko and Odo come in with everyone, bringing furniture and assorted stuff to get him back to business. Morn, his most loyal of patrons, comes to sit at his usual spot. Quark is stunned at realizing that he had assets all along... Sisko, Dax, Bashir, Morn, etc. And just when he was about to say something, he just stops and smiles. He clearly had an epiphany: that not only did he belong there, but he was a part of the community and was loved.

That might be the one single scene that exemplifies probably the most core value of the franchise: we are all in this together, we are all welcome, and we all belong.

And DS9 was full of scenes like this. The premise of the show itself is a clear statement that it's following the ideals of STAR TREK.

I've got other reasons, but as someone who grew up being very much an outcast to everyone, this speaks to me the most. Which is why DEEP SPACE NINE, more than even TNG (which is basically why I became a scifi fan), is my show.

Unsurprisingly (based off my avatar) my Trek is TNG. I grew up in the 1990s when BBC 2 used to show a different Trek every day or so. And TNG was the one that caught me and got me hooked. To the point where I get a lump in my throat at the second introduction of the theme in First Contacts end credits. All the other series have their own charms and their places in the world, but when someone says "Star Trek", its always going to be The Next Generation for me.

First exposure to Trek was STNG in the 90s so that's one reason I voted it.
Second reason would be that it is the best series, not just Trek series but overall best, except like I've said before season 1 of 24 comes really, really close.
