Comfort episodes/movies

All ten of the classic and TNG films are excellent at ambience in their own way, but for me The Motion Picture and Insurrection in particular are wonderfully soothing films and what I refer to as "comfort food for the senses".

I can understand that. TMP is my comfort film. I think the glacial pace, the effects, the music, the lack of space battles all contribute to its soothing quality.

TOS:
Tomorrow is Yesterday
Balance of Terror
That Which Survives

TNG:
Devil’s Due
Clues
Disaster
Remember Me
Rascals
The one where Picard says “On the Starship Enterprise, no one is ever alone”. Always makes me cry.

DS9:
Civil Defence
Way of the Warrior

VGR:
Counterpoint
Learning Curve
Worst Case Scenario

DS9 is my favourite show despite its lack of representation here!

Pretty much all TNG for me. These ones just cheer me right up no matter what, though I’ll pick a different flavor depending on what kind of down I’m feeling.

“Yesterday’s Enterprise”
“BOBW 1”
“The Inner Light”
“Conundrum”
“Cause and Effect”
I love TNG, but it never really had a calming effect on me. When I think of the Enterprise's corridors and turbolifts, I think horror; people sinking into the floor, Data stabbing Picard with a knife and a transformed Worf prowling in the dark. TNG's Enterprise isn't a safe place in my mindscape. I love the camaraderie and optimism, but I think Troi would have been a lot busier if the show had included more realistic depictions of mental trauma!

Pretty much any of it TBH. In fact, no pretty much. There's not an episode/movie of the whole franchise that I couldn't take some measure of pleasure from, and as unbelievable as it sounds, I don't hate any of it.

Star Trek is my comfort show. It's all good in the hood to me. Especially so TOS/TNG but really all of it to degrees. I might even watch the Section 31 movie I said I wouldn't watch one day.

As I said in the other thread, I can turn on just about any episode of Star Trek from any show and game comfort from it. On the other side of that coin however, I haven't been able to bring myself to watch DS9's The Visitor or Buffy the Vampire Slayer's the body since my mom died almost a decade ago.

If I'm at a loss for an episode to watch, I just ask R.E.G.

Pretty much any decent TOS episode, plus Voyage Home. WOK/TSFS/TUC are a bit intense and emotional to be a "comfort" viewing.

The low key character driven TNG episodes like Data's Day, Hollow Pursuits, In Theory, exc.

This is a Star Trek forum so it's going to just be Star Trek in general for a lot of people.

Endgame, because it gives me comfort knowing that the Voyager crew all got home in the end. :adore:

Belatedly getting into Short Treks and I could see Calypso being this going forward, had a very cozy late night feel with the dark, abandoned ship. Dancing with Audrey Hepburn also shoots up to number 1 on the list of "things I'd do if holograms were real" <3

Love Funny Face so it was nice to see incorporated into Star Trek for a 20th century pop culture reference to something besides B movie science fiction which seemed to be always what they did.
