Which Is the Best Captain?

Paradon

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Who do you think is the best captain? Is it Kirk, Picard, Janeway, or Sisko?

What would Kirk do in a tight situation when he is surrounded by a bunch of enemy's ships? He always fight his way out. On the Star Fleet exam he cheated because he thought the test was unbeatable! The guy is a genius! :scream::rommie: Spock obviously knew the answer to that one.... Picard figured it out during his first major battle. He was able to full the Ferengi's sensors into thinking that there was another ship in order to divert their fire power to something else, and then he use the opportunty to destroy the Ferengi's ship while it was distracted. That's what Spock would have done. The Klingons use this tactic all the time as we saw on DS9. So, what do you think? Personally, I think Picard and Janeway are very clever.... Sisko tends to let his emotions dominate him.

I culled the data from the other 48 times this came up and we can close the thread because the answer to 3 decimal places is Kirk.

Next question please.

Has to be Picard. Kirk is great, Sisko was only okay, Janeway was hit and miss, Archer was on the most part good.

Picard was the supreme commander from his first appearance.

I have come to love Kirk and Sisko, but Picard will always be the best captain to me. He can be both a wise diplomat and a capable warrior, he's often intimidating but he can also be kind and warm when the situation requires it, he's polished, intelligent and cultured. And I love listening to those speeches of his in that perfect British accent! :D

Other than the "Picard Maneuver" referenced in TNG "The Battle," I cannot recall any other instances of genuine tactical thinking in the modern Trek series (though I admit I'm not as familiar with DS9 and VOY as I am with TOS, TNG, and ENT). Kirk, on the other hand, thought tactically against his opponents on a regular basis. In addition to his tactical genius, he was thoughtful, intelligent, very conscious of the weight of his command, and committed to his crew. Picard was generally a good man but too preachy for my tastes, and Archer was generally incompetent. As such, the best captain by far was Captain James Tiberius Kirk.

Picard, he knew how to solve any situation in such a reasoned manor. He was just the best.

I also liked Kirk and Janeway (she had a heart).

But Calhoun really is a wonder. A shame he was never shown in a series.

I'll say Picard. He was a diplomat first and foremost and used his intellect and reason to avoid a conflict whenever he could and was still able to fight when necessary. I know it has been pointed out that Kirk was a great tactician and was always able to out do his opponents but Picard's diplomacy usually negated the need for a fight in the first place. If the fight happened anyway he could quickly put an end to it with tactics and more diplomacy.

^ I am not sure what you are getting at but I am not closing the thread. If they would like to discuss this topic again I don't see a problem with it.

Picard and Sisko, for me. Picard was wise and reasoned, and Sisko took no crap from anybody.

Hehe. Like when Sisko took that one punch at Q on "Q-Less" and Q fell backwards. That was hilarious.

For me I would have to say Kirk is the best captain. He's what made Star Trek what it is today. Then, I would say Sisko is the second best.

I'm just joking. I think maybe by now we need a "Which Captain/Series is your favorite?" sticky.

Well they all possess great qualities, some are similiar but they are all unique.
Kirk is unique in that his tatics are his own and not always following regulations.
picard is unique in that he almost always follows regulations but still has a mindset of a problem solver.
Sisko is out there controlling a station in the middle of the biggest war, and still has the ability to be a father.
Archer is out there really by himself but puts on a brave face and puts out a thing that says he is bigger than his ship.
All are great, but I don't think there is a real better one.

I've always gone for Picard in threads like these, but after watching DS9 for the past few months, I'm really considering voting for Sisko instead. Both are great Captains, but Sisko to me seems more... personable.
