The question explains itself. If the 24th century still moves forward year after year, then the Enterprise-E is now 23 years old (24 when the show airs [I feel old! :( ]) So, which ship (if any) would you want Picard to be the skipper of? There is a chance the E-E would still be around, but there's also the chance that Picard continues his streak of losing ships (RIP Stargazer, Enterprise-D). So, theoretically, if we're in the 25th century, Picard could have been in command of the Enterprise-J in the battle against the Sphere Builders. So, which ship would you want?

Edit: Damn! I forgot to add an "l" in "should!" Mods, please fix!

The thread title is a different question than the poll. I don't want Picard to be commanding a starship at this point - I understand the advice Kirk gave him, but the simple fact is, Picard is not the exact same as Kirk: I could totally see him actually being happy in the command admiralty, or the Diplomatic Core, or teaching at the Academy, or in a private endeavor like archaeology.

As for what "hero ship" I want to see show up - possibly giving Picard a ride - the Aventine (and Dax) would be nice. :D However, given Frakes' involvement with the Trek productions now, I think the most likely to appear, if any, would be the Titan, and Riker. And that could be (less, but still) cool.

I voted no ship. I don't see Picard commanding a ship anymore, but perhaps being a VIP passenger on one doing some critical work for Federation that nevertheless has the ship more or less at his disposal. Otherwise, I think the Enterprise-E is still around out there, but with a new captain. She might be mentioned now and again in passing, but I really think Picard has since moved on from starship command, IMO.

I don't think there's going to be a ship. If there is, I'm assuming they'll be carting around Picard on a mission.

ENT - E or GTFO. I don't want to see picard if he's not in the captain's chair. Maybe that's a reductive, unimaginative idea, but who gives a crap about Grandpappy Picard riding a desk or being driven around like Miss Daisy or in charge of Starfleet Academy or some other nonsense?

Just put Picard back in the chair, fer crissake.

And I would strongly prefer the opposite. Yet another example demonstrating the futility of “listening to the fans”.

If Stargazer is still around I wouldn’t mind seeing it. 100+ year old ships do amazing things if latest Star Trek movie is to be believed.

After 20 years, the Ent E would have been refited a number of times, even at the end of Nemisis it was being rebuit, so it would look abit different.
Yes have picard being driven around as an ambasador, but if they don't atleast show the Ent E, it would be a shame. Dax and the Avenetine would be Glorious!

Yeah, it not like the fans aren't going to watch any piece of crap as long as it's labeled "Star Trek."

Oh that right, the fans don't.

*cough* STD *cough*

# listen to the fans

I’ve been watching Trek since 1973. I’ve seen every episode and movie at least twice (except last night’s episode), some upwards of 20 times. While I don’t buy/read the novels as much as I used to, I have nearly 200 of them. Same for comics. I defy anyone to tell me I’m not a fan (an especially absurd proposition in any case as being a fan of anything is self-selected and self-defined). DSC is currently my second favourite series (after TOS), considerably ahead of some others (though I do like them all, just not equally).

However, the LAST thing I want the makers of Trek to do is “listen to me” (or any other fan) out of some sense of obligation. Like all makers of entertainment, they should follow their vision and let the audience decide whether they want more. I certainly want more of DSC—with no need to check with me beforehand as to how to make it.

They're not filming this show in Canada, so that might be hard.
If Picard is out of Starfleet, a ship won't be the focus, or in more than a couple of episodes. They can ship Sir Patrick up to Toronto for the Enterprise-E's journey to New Romulus or whatever the plot requires, then back to Cali for the beamdown.

I dunno - it depends on what he's out of Starfleet to do: He was out of Starfleet in "All Good Things", and that had a buttload of starships including three different versions of the -D.

If he's gone into archeology, especially to research the Iconians, he's going to need rides to get to the sites - and I'll bet some of them will be in disputed or even hostile territory. (Which now makes me think Aventine - with a cloak - would be a good candidate. ;) )
