I think it is safe to say that by the last episode of discovery, the TOS team will be set up. in fact I think the final scene will be of the TOS characters, so it may make sense to start introducing them one by one especially since this is suppose to be a direct prequel to TOS.

Jim Kirk is either teaching at the academy or on the USS Farragut right now. Don't forget TOS is set 10 years later, so that would mean quite a few of these people would probably be too young to be serving on a starship yet. McCoy is an obvious exception.

Would have liked an option for none of the above.

I'd be happy with any of them. Lots of potential for new first meetings between the TOS crew! And to flesh out backgrounds.

If they want them serving in space, they'll just change the character ages like they did with Anson Mount's Pike and the Kelvin universe versions of the TOS crew 10 years ago.

I was quite fond of Sulu's backstory from Vonda McIntyre's novels Enterprise: The First Adventure and The Entropy Effect, where we wanted to be a border patrol fighter pilot and was initially bummed to be assigned to a big lumbering flagship.

Also the show needs more than 2 gay people.

What was with the Asian Doug Henning look on the cover?"

Sulu isn’t a homosexual in the Prime universe though.

Pike, they knocked it out of the park,
Number One and Spock are shaping up quite nicely.
Amanda and Sarek are as well.
Looks a good track record to me.

I was about to say the same thing until I remembered discovery is also a punching bag in the trek fandom.

They have knocked it out of the park so far, in fact I am looking forward to discovery introducing classic characters. as a big fan of star trek 2009, it was nice to see the take on the classic characters as their younger selves. Putting that on tv will give them more depth since there would be more stories to tell. That is a good thing.

Since when has Star Trek cared about canon violations?
Considering we live in an era of rewatching and binge watching, they should be paying more attention than ever. Instead they treat it the same way they did in the 60's, when Trek was expected to be watched once and never again. It's very strange.
