Which character do you think the relaunch novels rehabilitated the most?

Janeway.

I wasn't a big fan of Voyager and disliked both Mulgrew and Janeway - a perfect storm of actress and the written character for me.

Kirsten Beyer's writing has made me like Voyager, and softened my dislike of Janeway immensely.

To be honest, my mental picture of Janeway has edged a bit towards the real Kirsten Beyer and away from Mulgrew.

Which helps.

I used to work with someone that hated Voyager and used to call her Captain Scareway. I forget why.

I didn't necessarily dislike her all the time. There were times she irritated me. Her inflexibility about Starfleet regulations sometimes grated on me. I agree with the principle, and that you have to stick with your core principles. But I wished she exercised a bit more flexibility about the finer details.

But there was a mischievous streak I liked. I think of the episode where the Doctor was ready to abandon the ship to be an opera singer (basically). When that doesn't work out and he has to return to the ship her reaction was pretty good. Of course he was going to be allowed back on the ship but she was going to make him sweat.

When I was younger, I prefered DS9 over Voyager when it comes to the TV series. Now with what has been done for the post-finale book series for each of them, the inverse is true.
